What to Consider While Converting A Barn

by Stuart Spindlow Interior Design Essex
Living life king size is not something which can be achieved from simple homes and plain flats. You need to have something grand, something as spacious as a barn, converted into a home. This brings in nostalgia; the rural backdrop and the rustic elements remind us of a time long gone. However, you need to know that to get this dream residence come true, you need to spend some time. We have some ideas which can help you in restructuring the barn for living.

Although the original purpose behind building this structure was to stack things and not to build something beautiful, the antiquity itself can serve to be main drawing force. You can keep the original timber and reuse it. In fact, many homeowners are going for this and keeping the timbers which are making their place look antique and attractive. In simpler words, let the exposed wooden beams of the ceiling remain there and let the roof stay sylvan.

Coming to the windows, as you have opted for a barn conversion in London, you have ample opportunity to enjoy large outdoor view. You should opt for large, grand windows and let the sunlight hit inside. This will open up the outside view for leisure time as well as increase the look of the barn as old buildings are expected to have larger windows.

For the doors, consider installing sliding doors and you can save a lot of space, really! It will make the home look spacious without disrupting the antique and rustic look. Sliding doors are getting popular with these converted structures and they are very helpful in living room, kitchen and bathroom areas.

We will expect barns to have high ceilings. However, if you are uncomfortable with this, you might want to change this. We would suggest that you keep it intact. High ceilings would make your home spacious and airy. Barns are made to by lofty and we should let it remain that way.

You must think of the temperature and comfort of the home. To keep the interior cool during summers and warm during winters, spend money on the insulation. You can use thermal panels and foam insulation as these two are known to keep the temperature very stable. These arrangements would make the interior of the barn comfortable during every season of the year.

That's it, you can now go and convert the barn into a great little house of your own.
