What happens in the dental implant procedure?

1.       The damaged tooth, where necessary, is extracted.

2.       After a healing period, the gum is incised and the implant is inserted in the bone. In some instances, a bone graft may also be necessary to support the implant.

3.       In most cases, you are given a temporary cap while the bone in your jaw affixes to the implant (called Osseo-integration) and after several months, generally, the crown is fitted.

4.       Usually, there are no further adjustments needed.

Am I suitable for a dental implant?        

Commonly there are three preconditions that determine the success of full dental implants treatment:

1.       The bone in your jaw must be dense enough for the implant procedure to take.

2.       You must not have active, uncontrolled periodontal disease ( gum disease.)

3.       You don’t smoke.

Otherwise, there is generally nothing to prevent any healthy adult from receiving this treatment.

What will my health insurer cover?

The only way to establish this is to talk to your insurer and if necessary compare what your current provider offers and compare that with what is on offer from other reputable providers.
