What Makes the Perfect Smoothie?

by Shawn Deny Internet Marketing Manager

A smoothie is certainly the best nutritious alternative to your regular breakfast. It’s fruity, delicious, full of nutrients, and low calorie which makes it the perfect meal to start your day with. Due to its nutrients laden properties, smoothies are super popular among diet conscious people who tend to take balanced amounts of healthy nutrients for breakfast, snacks, or for their post workout meal.

Whether you are aiming to reduce calorie count in your daily diet, seeking a weight loss, or want a delicious drink for instant energy, you can make a nutritious smoothie in moments if you know how to make the perfect smoothie. Here are a few tips to help you through it.

Balance the Ingredients Perfectly

Add at least two mugs of liquid base such as milk, natural or flavored yogurt, low fat coconut milk or coconut water with three quarters of a mug of your favorite fruit. Although banana is the perfect fruit to give the best creamy texture to your smoothie, some other fruits like berries, grated apple, plums, peaches, mango, or melon might also work well to create a delicious and nutritious drink.

Use Chilled Fruits

If you make smoothies regularly, it is best to stash some fruits in the freezer to retain the nutritional value of the fruits as well as to get thick and frosty drinks. Frozen bananas are great for this, so if you have bananas at home, put them in the freezer and make extra creamy smoothies whenever you want.

Add Protein

Add extra protein to your smoothie to make a nutritious glass. Although protein powder is the most commonly used supplement, it is best to get the protein content from natural products like tofu, peanut butter, or other nut butter.

Blend Well

Blend your smoothie on high until it is completely blended. If your smoothie is too thick due to excessive fruits, you can add a little water. Furthermore, if it lacks sweetness, you can add a little bit of maple syrup, honey, or agave syrup. Remember that natural sweeteners can add calories to your smoothie, so avoid using them in excess healthy smoothie recipes.

If you are having a smoothie for breakfast or lunch, try making it a more rounded meal by adding enough protein. Moreover, a green detox smoothie is also a great alternative to regular meals for a delicious and super nutritious intake.
