Organic food is a product produced by farmers without using any harmful pesticides or herbicides.  The main goal that farmers want to achieve by doing organic farming is enhancing soil and water quality, reduce pollution and provide safe, healthy livestock habitats. This method of producing food is gaining a lot of popularity these days because of the fact that they contain a high value of nutrients with them. It is also proven that having organic fruits and vegetables is equal to adding one or two portions of the recommended "five a day".

People who are more concerned about their health, environment and animal highly promote and consume organic food.  The main reason why it is different from non-organic food is the way it is produced, manufactured and handled. Non-organic food uses synthetic fertilizers to add nutrients to the soil and sewage sludge as fertilizer. They also use most synthetic pesticides for pest control, irradiation to preserve food or to eliminate disease or pests. Organic food is always tested and marked by Government, unlike ordinary food which has a higher risk associated with it.

Due to all these reasons, organic food is expensive than the ordinary food we buy. Organic India and organic shop are few organic food stores in India which keep only organic products with them. But the question is are they worth the price. It is really important as a consumer for us to understand that the price of a food product is based on various factors attached to it. For instance, the amount we pay on our water bills to cover the cost of getting agricultural chemical residues out of the drinking water; the cost of health care associated with an increasing number of food-related illnesses, and; the amount we pay in taxes to subsidize large farming operations (the vast majority of which are “conventional” farms), and to fund government agencies that work to protect wildlife and repair their habitats. Similarly, in a case of organic food, we pay for the way they have been produced, manufactured and then finally sold to the consumer by being inspected by the government agencies. Also, the shelf life of organic food is much much more than any ordinary food and they always taste better. Plus, the demand for organic food is rising day by day.

Organic food is also considered healthier than ordinary food though a detailed research is required in this field. Although a number of polyphenolic compounds, magnesium, vitamin c, phosphorus etc are present in higher amount in organic food as compared to non-organic food and all these elements are considered very important for the human body because of the high level of nutritional value present in them.

If you are considering of having healthy and nutritious food do not forget to have flex seeds which are small, brown, tan or golden-colored seeds that are the richest sources of a plant-based omega-3 fatty acids, called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) in the world and also known as linseeds. The benefits of these flex seeds are immense. A 1ounce (3 tbsp) serving of flaxseeds contains omega-3 (ALA) 6,338mg, fiber 8g, protein 6g, vitamin B1 31% RDA, manganese 35% RDA, magnesium 30% RDA, phosphorus 19% RDA, selenium 10% RDA. Also, flaxseeds contain a good amount of vitamin B6, Iron, potassium, copper and zinc. Low carbs, healthy hair and skin, weight loss and low cholesterol are very few of the benefits of having flex seeds. But it is really important to chew them properly if you actually want to feel the benefits of having them. Flax seeds price start from 40 and can go up to 500 rupees.

In nutshell, if you want healthy and longer life switching to organic food is the best decision that you can make for yourself and for the environment.
