What Makes London an Iconic City
by Shruti Sharma Content CuratorLondon, the city of dreams for people who
come visiting from across the globe. The capital of the United Kingdom is one
of the most iconic and charming cities of the world. The Romans founded this
city around two thousand years ago and called it “Londinium”. Today this
great city exhibits an impeccable fusion of the contemporary with heritage and
tradition. Whether a person is sitting in Delhi, Dubai or Denmark, London for
sure sits at the summit of his/her travel bucket list.
But what makes London the icon that it is?
What are the ingredients of the city that pulls millions of travellers? Here
are a few of them:
London Bridge
Not many people exist in the world who have
not heard the nursery rhyme, ‘London Bridge is Falling Down’. This structure
has been iconic for London, in the true sense of the word. Over the period of
time, a number of bridges that spanned over the Thames river haven been called
the London Bridge. The current structure was built in 1970s. Tourists generally
prefer staying in luxury hotels near tower bridge (London Bridge), which
is a spectacle of its own kind.
The Tower Bridge of London
This place has an aura like no one else.
The intrigue that it carries, along with the history of the grim executions of
the prisoners incarcerated there is a combination like no other. It also houses
the Crown Jewels, along with the famed Kohinoor Diamond. Every year, thousands
of tourists visit this place, to take a dive into the intriguing times of
history.
The Buckingham Palace
The seat of the Royalty of the United
Kingdom, her majesty the Queen and her family. In summers every year, the
palace is open for tourists, except the private quarters of the Queen. Each of
the 19 rooms of the palace have a rich history to narrate and almost smell of
it. Outside the palace, there awaits another unmatchable spectacle. The
changing of the royal guard. A ceremony of posh and pomp. This ceremony takes
place every day in summers and on alternate days in winters.
The Big Ben
The Tower Clock of the Parliament of the
United Kingdom is the Big Ben. The ball inside the tower that makes the clock
tong weighs a staggering 13 tonnes. The clock has four faces, one on each side
of the tower and when illuminated at night, it becomes a sight that one cannot
miss.
All these are what collectively make London
the phenomenon and the tourist destination that it is. Being such a huge
tourist destination, the growth of good hotels is almost automatic. The Lalit
London is one such good hotel, which because of its seamless and tailored
services, is an excellent boutique as well as business hotel. London has
the power to, both, intrigue you with its history and make you feel at home
with its hospitality
