What Is the Google Knowledge Graph (and Does It Affect SEO)?

by Ronald Wolf Business Consultant

Today, all businesses have to play online games. This means serious investment and devotion to SEO. A part of that game involves understanding the Google Knowledge Graph. Knowing how to make it work for you is critical in winning the SEO game. We need to help Google understand our content. Not many people are aware of this term. But everyone came into contact with it at one point or another. It is involved in every Google search page you saw. It is a tool that Google uses to provide us all with immediate and accurate information. Also, this tool affects our organic search visibility.

What is the Google Knowledge Graph?

Basically, it is an enormous database. It contains information that enables Google to provide us with information. In turn, this information is immediate, accurate, and directly answers our query. Whenever we make a single query and immediately receive an answer without additional steps, it is the Google Knowledge Graph at play. It is filled with an untold number of facts on various people, places, and things. These are referred to as ‘entities’. There are an estimated 5 billion entities. Also, there are around 500 billion facts in this database. Think of it as a mind map. It understands each entity in itself. It also makes connections between different ones. Using the Knowledge Graph, Google can make these connections and provide you with facts. Most of these answers are presented in the form of Knowledge Panels or Knowledge Cards.

The Knowledge Graph influence on SEO

The knowledge Graph is here to make everyone’s life easier. That goes for users and SEO enthusiasts. Users will get more relevant search results. On the other hand, SEOs will experience more traffic to the appropriate content. That is if we use the Knowledge Graph to our advantage. It is something we need to act upon. As we already saw, the Knowledge Panels offer answers on the Google search page. This means that the user does not have to visit your webpage to access the information. This can be a problem. Since its inception in 2014, the click-through rates have decreased. Most of us need clicks to get sales. The trick is to try and get on the graph itself. Now, this will require a quality SEO marketing campaign. In the next section, we will cover how to get your content on the Knowledge Graph.

Quality content creation

It is pretty much a given, but it all comes down to making good content. The search engine algorithms had plenty of time to mature. Combine that with a very competitive online market and you have your work cut out for you. Competing for the user’s attention is getting harder and harder. That is why regular, quality content is king. The top priority for Google is to give users the best experience possible. That means giving people what they want quickly and to the point. This is where your content needs to fit in. Luckily, there are plenty of tools at your disposal. Keywords, meta content, and various other SEO tools are there for you to utilize. Do your research and make the most of them. The goal is always to rank higher in hopes to get onto the Google Knowledge Graph. Focus on quality content.

Being active and consistent with our content

On top of quality, quantity and consistency are key. People are creatures of habit. They want to know they can expect more from you in regular time intervals. It builds trust in the brand. And Google knows this. Their algorithms take into account the quality and consistency of the content you push out. This way, your content and information are up to date. It is important because you do not want your information to become obsolete. If that happens, your rankings will plummet as the algorithm will no longer link to that piece of content. You can remedy this by staying active on your social media profiles. Organize your content for all of the major social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, etc. Observe your competition. Figure out what they are doing right. Try to copy them, and eventually, surpass them. And remember, there is a difference between posting often and regularly.

Get a Wikipedia page

You can try and create your own Wikipedia page. This means you will have to come up with your own relevant content. Also, you will need to adhere to all the policies and guidelines. In short, you will have to mention only the most important information. This information needs to be backed up by relevant and trustworthy sources. Do not try to find some loophole in the creation process. There is no shortcut. It takes time, quality, and consistency to build up your SEO in Sydney. Any shady action will forever be logged into your online history. Needless to say, it will reflect very poorly on your SEO endeavours. Lastly, someone unaffiliated can create your Wikipedia page. This means marketing so well, that people feel that you should have a Wikipedia presence. Of course, make sure that the content posted here is to your liking.
