What is Symptomatic and Asymptomatic Stenosis? What is the Treatment?

by Rahul Tyagi Team Leader
Carotid stenosis is a medical condition marked by the narrowing of the carotid arteries which are responsible for the flow of oxygenated blood from the heart to the brain. Just like any other type of stenosis, is it pulmonary stenosis or aortic stenosis, carotid stenosis is also caused by the accumulation of plaque on the surface of the arteries. Carotid stenosis is further classified into two categories, i.e. Symptomatic carotid stenosis and Asymptomatic carotid stenosis. A lot of people opting for TAVR surgery in India were found to be suffering from the problem. In fact, the best-rated cardiologist in Gurgaon suggests that TAVR surgery is one of the best treatments for carotid stenosis.

The symptoms of carotid stenosis are very common and it is usually very difficult to determine the exact symptoms. On the basis, this carotid stenosis can either be symptomatic (one in which the patient experiences clear symptoms) and asymptomatic (in which the person does not experience any symptoms). Both the problems are equally dangerous but what makes Asymptomatic carotid stenosis riskier is the fact that the problem is quite hard to detect in the initial stages. We all know the importance of early diagnosis and detection in the treatment of any disease. But what if the patient himself is unaware of his medical condition? Many such cases have been witnessed by the best-rated cardiologist in Gurgaon who has helped the patients to get rid of the problem with satisfactory results. TAVR surgery in India is a comparatively newer concept and this is why most of the patients don't even know about it.

The treatment is available in all the leading heart hospitals in India. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement is a minimally invasive procedure with a very high success rate. The procedure involves the use of a catheter and balloon which are fixed together. The catheter is inserted inside the patient's body via very small incisions. This guarantees minimal blood loss and lower chances of infection. The catheter is directed towards the affected area with utmost care and once it is in the right position, the balloon is inflated to push the walls of the defected artery. This helps to open any sort of blockage and restore the normal flow of blood.

Since asymptotic carotid stenosis does not usually show any symptoms it is very important to go for frequent routine checkups to ensure that your heart is safe and even if you are detected with any such problems, the treatment can be started on time.
