What is Guided Meditation?

by Griff W. Business Owner
Meditation for beginners has recently become popular. People find it an important step to take in their daily lives. For those who may not have tried meditation before, guided meditation has been introduced to help them understand and implement it in their everyday lives.

It is important to note that guided meditation is not a magic cure. Instead, guided meditation is just that: a guided process. It guides you in the process of meditation. This may be helpful for those who may be less familiar with meditation techniques. For those who have been meditating for years, however, guided meditation can be a great place to start.

First, when you choose led meditation, you may only be asked to imagine a peaceful and relaxing state of mind. This allows you to focus on your preferred state of mind. After you've imagined this state of mind, you then begin to practice relaxation breathing techniques. As you breathe in, your focus is placed upon relaxing the muscles in your body. This helps you shift your attention to the focus and stop yourself from thinking about anything at all. This then allows you to begin the guided meditation itself.

It is important to note that you can be guided through guided meditation while lying down. If this is the case, you will lie down on your back, and your focus is placed upon relaxing and focusing on your breath. After this, you continue to meditate while remaining in this position. If you choose to be guided through meditation while sitting on your butt, your focus is placed upon concentrating on your meditation and relaxing your body. After this, you take the meditation stance, repeat the breathing exercise, and continue meditation.

Next, you may choose to take a guided meditation while seated or standing. You may use the sitting meditation if you find that it is more comfortable. This will allow you to focus on relaxing your body while being seated. During the standing meditation, you concentrate on focusing on your breathing and relaxing your body.
Remember, guided meditation is just that: a guided process. You are still in control. When you focus on relaxing and focusing on your mind while guided meditation is in progress, you will always be in control. The process is much like the results of auto-pilot. This means that, despite your new-found meditation skills, you will still be your ultimate guide and instructor. In this way, guided meditation provides an excellent opportunity to practice meditation without needing to get too close to your practice.

Lastly, it should be noted that led meditation is often guided by a class that teaches how to meditate. So, you are still advised always to perform the process yourself. If you are performing guided meditation for the first time, some classes can give you a bit of instruction. If you are unsure of how to perform guided meditation, your best bet is to seek guidance from these classes.
