What is a Dispensing Pump For?
by David M. Where News Comes FirstTake a look
at your grocery store. Chances are, you buy many of your essential items
there--from food to home items to cosmetic items. Most grocery items today are
packed in a sanitary fashion to ensure longer shelf lives and give confidence
to the consumer who buys the product. So whether it's a bottle of shampoo, a
sachet of tomato sauce or a tub of dishwashing paste, manufacturers like to use
specialized machines that will package the items without need for human
interference, ensuring quality and safety.
These
specialized machines are made up of a number of specialized parts as well. In
particular, most of these machines use dispensing pumps in order to be able to
successfully dispense product in the packaging in a sanitary fashion. A
dispensing pump, also called a metering pump, moves fluid at a steady rate and
pressure over a specific period of time. They can dispense a variety of fluids;
depending on the application and the industry needing it, metering pumps can be
used for water, chemicals, and solutions.
Manufacturers
of fast-moving consumer goods make heavy use of dispensing pumps in their
production line as these can produce more finished products compared to if it
was made by hand. Dispensing pumps are part of a bigger system, called a
dispensing system, which also includes fluid dispensers, dispensing valves,
dispenser controllers, valve controllers, and temperature controllers.
It goes
without saying that dispensing pumps are extremely important in the
manufacturing business in order to dispense product accurately and precisely.
Any small mistake in the metering of a dispensing pump would mean too little or
too much product, which will eventually cost the company. It is also important
for companies to maintain the quality of their dispensing pumps by having them
calibrated and checked regularly to make sure they continue to be accurate and
efficient.
Other common
uses for dispenser pumps are for petrol. Gas stations use these systems to be
able to pump gas from an underground source into a vehicle. Dispenser pumps are
also used in the food service and food packing industry. Dispenser pumps allow
containers to be filled up with liquids like condiments, juices or sauces, and
they then get packed.
The
cosmetics industry also makes heavy use of dispenser pumps, as a means to be
able to pack products with active ingredients in a sanitary manner without
affecting the structure and properties of the liquid within. Dispenser pumps can even be used on CDs, as
the final UV coating before it gets packed and shipped and used by consumers.
