What Donations To Make To The Old Age Homes

by Kanan James NGO INDIA

All the NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) s that work for the betterment of the needy and poor, require donations for running their services and programs. Different organizations work for different people in need like some work for children, some for women, some for destitute and autistic, some for animals, some for the older people of the country etc.

There are many activities and services that are required to be done to improve the living conditions of the people in need. The people may not always be poor, but due to some mishap taken place in their lives, they require support from the NGOs. There are many people and organizations that work as philanthropists and provide the necessary support to the NGOs.

How can we provide help to the Old Age Homes?

Helping an old age home or any other NGO does not always require being about financial transactions. In terms of working for the needy we must understand what their needs are. If we are thinking of helping the old age homes, there are many ways we can do it. What is it that the old people need the most? Companionship and moral support. When people grow old, they do not get much possibilities of communicating with people. There are many among them who live in isolation and refuse to communicate which is very unhealthy. Spending time with people in old age homes can turn out to be very therapeutic even to the volunteers.

We can make donations by taking the responsibility of providing groceries and other food items. As we know, food is the basic need for livelihood and in the old age homes, there are many people with many severe health issues who need to be fed healthy and particular food items that is suggested by the doctors. Hence, donating food on a monthly basis is of a great help to the NGOs.

In India, there are numerous festivals that people love spending with their own families. But, in cases of the people staying in old age homes that have been either abandoned by their families or have been forced to move there out of loneliness can barely get to meet their own families. Spending time with the elders on these special occasions can be of great joy to them.

If you are an expert in the field of fitness and physical well-being, the best you can do is to introduce yoga and exercise classes for the elderly. This can prove to be of a great time of interaction with their fellow mates and work on their physical fitness. Doing some easy exercises and meditations is not only about physical health improvement but emotional and mental health improvement as well, which the elderly people require the most for a healthier life.

When we look at our parents being fortunate age gracefully with all the basic necessities like food, clothing, shelter, medication etc. being fulfilled and taken of, what we must not forget is that there are other older people not enough fortunate as our parents.
