West Bengal JEE 2014 – Exam

West Bengal JEE 2014 is the engineering entrance examination to be conducted by WBJEEM Board for offering admissions to candidates into first year professional degree courses. All the candidates from the West Bengal state have to attempt the exam and qualify it to be eligible for counselling. To apply for the exam, candidates are required to fill an application form which was released on 18 December 2013 and lasted till 25 January 2014. Before applying for the exam, candidates are mandatory suggested that they read the eligibility criteria in detail so as to know if they are eligible to take the exam or not. Examination Pattern

Candidates must read the exam pattern before starting off with preparation for the exam. It will tell a lot of details about the exam such as number, type of questions, marking scheme, pattern and subject wise distribution, duration of the exam and number of sections in the paper. Candidates can refer to the exam pattern and plan their preparations in accordance.

  • Exam shall be based on the class X, XI, XII syllabus of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Every wrong answer will lead to deduction of 1/3 mark.
  • To get full marks in category 3 questions, candidates have to mark all the correct options.
  • Marking scheme for category 3 - 2 x (number of correct responses) / (Total number of correct options)
  • Category 1 – 150 questions of 1 mark each with Physics and Chemistry – 45 and Math – 90 questions.
  • Category 2 – 35 questions of 2 mark each with Physics and Chemistry – 10 and Math – 15 questions.
  • Category 3 – 150 questions of 1 mark each with Physics, Math and Chemistry – 5 questions each.
  • Duration of Math, Physics and Chemistry exam is 2 hours, 1.5 hours, 1.5 hours respectively.

Eligibility Criteria      

Before filling the application form, candidates must read the eligibility criteria to know about the terms that define a candidate’s eligibility in the exam. For the reference of the candidates, all the conditions are mentioned here for general courses and marine engineering separately.

General Courses

  • It is necessary to pass class XII from any central or state recognized board.
  • Minimum aggregate percentage is 45% for general and 40% for ST/SC in PCM stream.
  • It is also required that at least 30% marks are scored in English separately.
  • Candidate must be 17 years of age or older by December 2013.

Marine Engineering


  • The minimum percentage aggregate in class XII is 60% from PCM stream.
  • It is necessary to be individually passed in English, Physics, Math, Chemistry, and Vernacular.
  • Age of the candidate must be 25 years or more as on December 2013.
