Wedding attire for South Indian wedding groom is different for all events like for engagement, marriage, reception, and other customs. In India on the marriage event grooms usually wear sherwani along with churidar pajama but in South India it is quite different because the Groom wears a beautiful Sherwani instead of the Churidar pajama. 
He wears traditional South Indian silk ‘Dhoti’ under the Sherwani that gives him a South Indian groom look.

Wearing a Safa is not necessary according to South Indian customs for the groom; on the other head they usually don't wear anything. Usually South Indian grooms wear white colour wedding attire that has given the priority according to their religion. As far as the new tradition is concerned the bride and groom always wear matching color attire on their wedding to look compatible for each other. The groom always tries to give some red or pink border look on his dress according to the bride Saree that looks like made for each other on the stage. 
If Groom likes then he can wear a white Safa over his wedding attire,  the groom always carries a sword on his hand to protect his bride from the evil eyes. South Indian grooms looks smart with the simple wedding attire they look very cute ‘dhoti’ and ‘kurta’. Sometimes South Indian grooms wear shirt on the dhoti along with dupatta that too looks attractive. 

In many traditions and customs of South Indian religion, the groom do not wear anything on the top he just wear dhoti and dupatta for many pre marriage events. South Indian grooms always looks less decorated them a bride but his wedding attire shows the simplicity and love for the bride.
