Ways to augment the online learning

by Lead School Consultant

Technology is disrupting the education sector and online learning each day. Schools have shifted to a digital medium of education. More and more schools are harnessing the power of virtual education to make learning easy, effective and approachable. In addition, the schools are using new software such as school ERP modules to handle the entire management process, including attendance management for schools. Let me discuss several ways to augment online learning so that you can derive the maximum benefit out of it.

#1 Utilise a calendar or planner

Not everyone likes to maintain a planner but trust me; your life would be so much simpler if you use a calendar. Of course, you could be someone who doesn’t like to keep a calendar to attendance management for schools, but it becomes much easier for you to keep track of deadlines, assignments, and due dates if you use it.

You can mark when you have a face-to-face meeting with a teacher. You don’t even need a proper diary or an expensive planner for this. Instead, you can use sticky notes (virtual or real) and stick them on your wall or your phone’s wallpaper so that you remember the priorities well.

#2 Check your email religiously

Sometimes, we tend to ignore the email notifications or worse, we keep them off. However, you should check your emails religiously to stay updated about the latest events, assignments, zoom meetings, codes, test updates and more.

You can also create separate folders in your email for each class so that you can access all the information directly without getting lost in tonnes of promotional emails. So please keep it simple but organised and see your productivity shoot up like anything.

#3 Maintain a schedule

You may find yourself overworked or underworked while you transition to an online class. It would help if you didn’t get distracted by your mismanaged classwork and homework throughout the day. If you maintain a schedule, you can finish something in only a few hours; otherwise, you would have taken many days.

During virtual classes, your teacher can’t keep a constant eye on you, and you don’t have anybody to be accountable towards. Therefore, you need to follow a schedule to be productive and efficient. Write down details of the work you are doing, the class you are going to, breaking for lunch, getting up and drinking water and many more things. This will keep you disciplined and accountable to yourself.

#4 Environment matters

It is not suitable for your brain and body to do all your online classes from bed. Unfortunately, most of the students do this. But please, make small changes like moving your laptop to your workstation. A change of environment is a signal to your brain for getting you into a learning mode.

Try to work near a window, in a properly lit and ventilated space. Since you no longer have the luxury of strolling around on a school campus between classes, try to take a break and walk on your balcony in natural light if you can. This will keep you productive and awake. In addition, if you can look out of the window every ten minutes, you will refrain from using your phone unnecessarily.

#5 Don’t cheat and be accountable to yourself

I know this is easier said than done. But, eventually, one day, we will be studying in a hybrid learning model. Then, you will have to sit in a physical class, and that day, you will regret that you spoilt your brain by goggling the smallest of things during the online classes. Don’t get me wrong. Google is beneficial, but it is prone to be abused during online classes.

We sincerely wish you follow these top five ways to enhance your online learning experience and get good results.
