It was only the second time during an incredible season in which he has won 10 titles that Nadal - the French and US Open champion - has failed to reach the final of a tournament he has entered. The only other occasion was his shock first-round exit from Wimbledon. But the 13-time Grand Slam champion was given the run-around by the 2009 US Open champion, who launched a sustained all-court attack, out-hitting his illustrious opponent to gasps from an enthralled crowd.

Juan Martin Del Potro looks for the first ATP Masters 1000 title of his career in Shanghai when he takes on the defending champion Novak Djokovic in the final. The Shanghai Rolex Masters championship on Sunday features two of the hottest players on the ATP World Tour as top seed and reigning champion Novak Djokovic meets No. 6 seed Juan Martin del Potro.

Djokovic.is appearing in his seventh final of the season (4-2), 60th of his career (38-21) and 25th career ATP Masters 1000 final (14-10). The 26-year-old Serb is looking to win his seventh career ATP World Tour title in China, which would be the most of the 15 countries he’s earned a title. One of the Big Four (Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Federer) have accounted for 30 of the past 32 ATP Masters 1000 titles (since ’10 Monte Carlo). The last player to win his first ATP Masters 1000 title was David Ferrer in 2012 Paris.

Djokovic will sense any weakness and would most definitely have the edge if it were to go to three sets but can take confidence from their last three set meeting. Djokovic showed signs of vulnerability in his quarter-final win over Gael Monfils but was back to his best in the semis, defeating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets 6-2 7-5.
