For many years now, wall paints have been the leading choice when it comes to home renovation. There are many Indian families for whom Diwali meant that time of the year when the house gets freshly painted. But in recent years, the popularity of wall paints has been challenged by the introduction of decorative home wallpapers in the market. Gradually, consumers are slowly shifting to using wallpapers on their home walls rather than paints.

One of the main reasons why wallpapers are more popular is because they are easy to install. Compared to paints, they require less time. A painting job takes up at least a couple of days. Plus, it also needs an extra day of drying time. Putting up wallpapers is much easier and a hassle-free process. Depending on the size of the room, wallpaper for walls can be installed within 4 to 8 hours. They can be easily stuck on the walls. When a room is finished, it is ready to live in. There is no drying time needed. With wall paints being the other option, wallpapers save time for homeowners.

From the budget point of view, wallpapers are cheaper than paints. High-quality emulsion paints come at an expensive price. Moreover, if homeowners want any texture or patterns on their walls, they have to pay extra for that. In comparison, wallpapers are available at affordable rates in different colors and designs. They are also more durable than paints. While paints lose their shine after 3-4 years, wallpapers last for a minimum of 7 years. They are easy to maintain and by taking proper care, wallpapers remain to look new for many years. Thus, they are more cost effective in the long run.

When it comes to renovating the home, wallpapers provide a much wider choice of options. With wall paints, the only real choice consumers get is the shade card. But for wallpapers, homeowners can select among different colors, patterns, textures, designs, and styles. They can choose decorative wallpaper for bedroom walls and living rooms, or opt for waterproof wallpaper in the bathroom and kitchen area.

Wallpapers are also available in different finishes such as vinyl, fabric, foil printed, embossed textures, metallic, suede, etc. The kind of material wallpaper is made of usually plays a factor in the selection process. Foil-based wallpapers have the metallic finish and are used to produce a glossy and sophisticated look. They are a good choice for darker rooms as it reflects backlight. Vinyl-based wallpapers are ideal for use in kitchen or bathroom because of its high water resistance. They can be easily wiped using a wet cloth and is, therefore, should be used in homes with little kids who are prone to drawing on walls.

It is also important to keep the end user of the room in mind when picking new wallpaper. For example, the wallpaper in a kid’s room will be different from wallpaper used in a master bedroom. Children like interiors which are fun and lively. Therefore, their room wallpaper should be bright and cheerful with animations or drawings. In contrast, the master bedroom is meant for adults where wallpapers with floral designs or symmetrical patterns will be the better choice.
