Visiting and staying in Camden Town

by Paul R. travel, for your future self.

When in London, do like the Brits do- visit Camden Town. It is a side which is often overlooked by most tourists. Activities for most in London include a ride on the London Eye, watching the change of guard at Buckingham Palace, taking a picture with the Big Ben in hand and feeding the pigeons at Trafalgar Square. Guides generally do not talk about places to visit in Camden Town.

Location

Camden Town is recognised as a notorious area with alternative fashion and subcultures. It is 3.9 km north of the centre of London and part of the inner district of London. Three important railway stations of London are located here, namely King’s Cross, Euston and St. Pancras. Places located close to Camden Town are Barnsbury, Holloway and Belsize Park.

What is Camden all about?

Camden cannot be bucketed into a specific category. It is synonymous with craziness, a bit of offence, slapstick humour, a bit of ridicule and much more. You will notice a freakish assortment of people here, inclusive of suited gentlemen and skating dudes, punks and hippies. Everyone seems to be here to be loud and have a good time. Several successful bands have bloomed here since the 1970’s.

There are plenty of places to visit in Camden Town. Whatever kind of person you are, you will certainly find some place to visit. In order to shop, move along the Camden High Street. Here you will come across stores with punk and gothic clothing, Doc Martins, body piercing and tattoos. After looking at the colourful markets, you will surely be tempted to shop.

Looking for vintage gear? There are many stores which sell second hand accessories, clothes, shoes, home wares and vinyl music. You will find these stores at the Stables Market.

If you enjoy a drink or two, then there are many pubs you can visit in Camden. Visit the Hawley Arms or the Lock Tavern to have fun. It may be fun to hang out with emos, metal heads and Goths at The Devonshire Arms. You can have greater fun in grooving to live music, where songs of bands like Pink Floyd and the Doors are played. The Roundhouse, Dingwalls and The Dublin Castle are great places for live music.

Spend some quality time with yourself by visiting the Regent’s Canal. This canal crosses the heart of Camden, across all its markets. A visit to Camden is said to be incomplete without being to the Regent’s Canal. Also do not miss out on great food being served on food stalls, which provide tastes from different parts of the world.

Serviced Apartments in Camden Town

Now you have to be settled at one place in order to enjoy the offerings from Camden Town. A great option to stay is one of the serviced apartments in Camden Town. The advantages of staying in serviced apartments are many- you get kitchen facilities and housekeeping services. Prices of services apartments are also many times lesser than luxury hotels.

One of the areas to look for these apartments is the Camden Town tube station or the Northern Line. Apartments are present just ten minutes away from the station. This is a vibrant borough in London. Important places such as Leicester Square, Tottenham Court Road and Charing Cross are just a few stations away on the Tube.

In case you want to be in the central part of London, that option is also available. Many 2 bedroom serviced apartments are present in central London. Look for a home on Primros Hill, which will give you a panoramic view of Northern London.

Another place where you can find serviced apartments is Residential Islington. Apartments here have balconies, and people can also mingle with other guests on the communal roof terrace.

So if you want a whiff of something different, wish to revel in a new travel experience, then Camden Town should be a must-see on your list.
