Value That a Hijab Holds in the Life of Muslim Women

by Jose Malave I am an author.

There are lots of different kinds of coverings, such as hijab, niqab, burka worn by Muslim women all over the world. To this day, head coverings play a crucial role in many religions, which are seen as a sign of modesty for people who wear them, and also a symbol of religious faith. But it’s a personal choice. The hijab is one name for a variety of similar headscarves, which consists of one or two scarves that cover the head and neck. The Islamic dress code for women goes beyond hijab, Muslim women dress code deals with clothing, attitude, and behaviour. Muslim women choose to wear hijab for many reasons with the predominant reason being the belief that Allah Almighty has instructed women to wear it as a means of fulfilling His commandment for modesty, not to mention the fact that many sections of the Quran (the Muslim holy text) and the Hadith (the statements associated with the Prophet Muhammad) make reference to veiling being worn by the wives of the prophet.

To get an insight into the complete code of life, learning the Holy Quran is the way forward, which includes every aspect of life which a person needs to know about. It is the best of all education in this world offering solutions to all the problems of our life. Here’s our guide to the various different types of Hijab for Muslim women:

Square Scarf- This form of hijab is most commonly referred to as ‘hijab’, and is most commonly worn by women in the West that covers the head and neck, but the face is visible. These scarves come in many patterns, fabrics, styles and colours.

It is up to personal preference to determine the type most commonly worn and referred to that covers head and neck but leaves the face clear.

Niqab- This is a veil for the face that leaves the area around the eyes unobstructed. One may wear a separate eye veil, and it is especially worn with an accompanying headscarf (khimar).

Khimar- It is a long, cape-like veil that hangs down further than other veils with some khimars going all the way down to the knees, and they often cover the hair, neck, and shoulders completely, but leave the face clear.

Chador- The chador is a full-body cloak, often accompanied by a smaller headscarf underneath. Black is generally the most popular public colour, but colourful versions are available as well. The chador covers a woman’s entire body just like the khimar.

Shayla- This is quite popular in the Gulf region, which is wrapped around the head and pinned in place at the shoulders. This is a long, rectangular scarf, and there are a variety of fashions, fabrics, colours and styles that constitute this fashion style.

Burka- It is a one-piece veil, and is the most conservative of all Islamic veils, often left with just a mesh screen over the eye area to see through.
