Use On Page SEO to Improve Website Ranking

by Kevin Smith Author
There’s more to attorney SEO than just keywords and meta tags. On page SEO refers to the steps that are taken to improve rankings in the various search engines. The way text and graphics are used and labeled on the page can positively or negatively affect your law office’s placement in the search engine results. Some changes that can be made bring new content to the site, while others are so subtle that only the search engines notice them.

H1 Tags

These are standardized header tags used on web pages in the same way headlines are used in newspapers. The H1 text can be larger and bolder than the rest of the page to bring attention to the content. Not only can this enhance the user experience, but search engines consider data within these tags to be important and gives it more attention.

Optimizing the content so that it accurately reflects the information on the page can help improve the page’s ranking. More than one header tag can be used on a page, but won’t affect your SEO. Other header tags, such as H2, H3 and H4 can be used to introduce new topics within the page. Ensure each heading is unique to make it SEO-friendly as well as easy to read.

Images

Static images and video engage the user and can help raise your site’s placement on the SERPs. Take steps to optimize non-text elements. This can ensure content is accurately communicated to the search engines.

Original images have more value for attorney SEO efforts and branding than stock photos. They are unique to you, and search engines love original content. Make sure legal requirements are met if using stock photos. Ensure the image file is in a format that can be indexed, and use tags to name the image and offer a description. This improves SEO and enables screen readers to read site content. Describing image content using the same keywords as are in the file name can give it context, adding weight to the page.

Video

From cell phone recordings to high-end productions, videos can help raise your ranking in the search engines. Save the video in a format that can be indexed and make sure it’s tagged in much the same way images are, using the name, an alt tag and description to give it context. Hosting the video with a third party and embedding it in your site can help more people find it and build brand recognition.

On page SEO can help upgrade the user experience as well as improve the site’s placement on the SERPs. Experienced attorney SEO agencies can assist you in making subtle changes that make search engines take notice and bring more traffic to your site.
