Types of Stand-Up Buffet Catering

by Johnson Raphy Catering
Since its inception in 16th century France, buffet catering has garnered popularity far and wide.  It helps offer a great variety of food-choices to the guests without burning a hole in the pocket. A buffet caterer gives you a breakdown of price for each item which when ordered as a part of buffet package costs comparatively less. Multiple dishes are arranged on a table or a sideboard and the guests self-serve according to their food preferences. Self-service system also helps save money on man-power. Moreover, buffet catering done by experienced professionals ensure that neither the quantity of food falls short, nor it gets so much that it would result in wastage of food.

As explained in an article on ezine.com, “when you organize an event, you need to know how many people are going to show up. A good rule of thumb is that 10% of the people who say they will show up actually won't. The converse of this is that there will be people who either said they wouldn't come or just didn't answer at all will show up. That's why you should still plan for a little extra. Your buffet caterer will have had experience in planning for those occurrences, and will be able to help you plan better.”

There are different types of buffets that one may choose from for any event. Let’s introduce you to the different types of buffet catering.

1) Cafeteria Style Buffet
This type of buffet is suitable for events organised on a smaller-scale and especially in a home-bound space. As the guests pass through a line, they pick selected plates up and serve themselves. Or the plates might have pre-made sandwiches, a cup of desert, some other types of finger-food, a bowl of soup etc.

2) All-You-Can-Eat Buffet
If both variety and cost-efficacy are on your mind, then all-you-can-eat buffet is the right choice. There is a wide range of dishes that guests can serve themselves from different stations. The client has to pay for the buffet package which either has the fixed number of dishes according to the cuisine that has been chosen; or they may get a customised package of dishes.

3) Special-request-Buffet
Every day, there are new types of diets which are being introduced to promote health and well-being. Keeping up with these trends, many buffet caterers in Melbourne prepare cuisines which are meant for people who follow special diets, for e.g. vegan, Mediterranean diet, gluten-free diet, sea-food diet etc. Further, some people who might have special dietary needs due to medical reasons such as celiac-disease, lactose-intolerance etc.  In such cases, client may request for dishes which are prepared considering these needs. For standard cuisine, healthy buffet is prepared using organic ingredients only.
