Types Of Radiant Floor Heating

by Robert Morgan airzonehvac

Radiant floor heating is a popular solution to many common heating issues. Most homes heat with furnaces, fireplaces, or gas heaters. However, with such heating systems come various problems. However, radiant floor heating is rapidly becoming the most common method of heating any home. It warms your house from the floor up.

Flooring made of tile or wood has a high thermal mass. This ensures that a tile or wood floor will retain heat and then slowly release it into the room. Instead of letting a heating vent pump hot air out and make it instantly pool on the ceiling, the heated tile keeps the heat where you are.

Radiant Floor Heating is ideal for creating a cosy retreat in the comfort of your own home. Many homeowners redo their bathrooms, transforming a cool, old space into a cosy master bathroom with warm and toasty tile flooring. Although the majority of people use one type of radiant floor heating in Ottawa, this does not eliminate the existence of other alternatives. Another form of radiant floor heating could be more suitable for you. Let us take a look at the types of radiant floor heating.

1) Electric Radiant Floor Heating

For small spaces, electric radiant heat is the safest choice. It allows the use of built-in electric cables. If your electric provider charges by the hour, this heating system is perfect. If they do, and you have concrete floors, you can heat the concrete by turning off the heat. When remodelling a bathroom, many homeowners prefer electric radiant floor heating.

2) Hydronic Radiant Floor Heating

Larger areas benefit the most from hydronic radiant floor heating systems. It is a cosy heating alternative that is gaining popularity in many homes. Over the winter, the warmth brings a cosy feel to your house. Hydronic radiant floor systems circulate heated water from a boiler through tubing laid beneath your flooring. If you don't already have a boiler, you'll need a safe place to store one. However, if you can add one, it is well worth it.

3) Air Heated Radiant Floor Heating

Air-Heated radiant flooring is rare. The only advantage is that it can be combined with solar-powered systems, making it the most environmentally friendly alternative. However, since it does not absorb heat, it is only useful during the day. Air-heated flooring is one of the only choices if you live off the grid. Not to mention that in some climates, electricity isn't as dependable as we'd like.

Overall, radiant floor heating is a good option. It distributes heat more effectively than any other heating device and is a risk-free option for everyone. So, if you can find someone to properly build radiant floor heating in Ottawa at a reasonable cost, it is unquestionably right for you.
