Triund Trek - Trekking and Camping Packages

by Rohit T. Travel Professional

Location: Triund is located in Kangra Region of Himachal Pradesh.

Elevation:  2875 Meters above sea level.

What to expect: Spectacular view of the Dhauladhar ranges.

Suggested Duration: 01 night & 02 days (duration will be longer if you wish to trek further)

Best Time for Triund Trek: Triund Trek is feasible for the most part of the year. Though, pleasant weather during the months of March to June and September to mid-December makes it the most preferred time for the Triund trek. Triund Trekking and Camping continues during monsoon but due to heavy rains the trek becomes a little challenging. The months of January & February witness snow that makes Triund Trek unattainable.

How to Reach: The nearest airport to Triund is Gaggal airport also referred as Dharamshala Airport which is located at a distance of 17-18 kms from McLeodganj (also known as upper Dharamshala). The Airport is well connected with major cities and one can opt for cabs to McLeodganj, upon arrival. Pathankot railway station is the nearest railway station located at a distance of 85-90 kms from McLeodganj. Busses and Cabs are easily available at the station. There are frequent Volvo buses / Ordinary busses to McLeodganj bus stand from Delhi NCR (ISBT, Kashmiri Gate, Majnu Ka Tila) / Chandigarh. The booking can be easily done online. You can opt for an overnight journey from Delhi as busses takes 11-12 hours. If you wish to drive on your own it is advisable to reach a day prior.

Triund Trek Difficulty: Triund Trek is one of the easiest treks of Himachal Pradesh and is suitable for all age groups. It is perfect for the beginners but that being said it will not disappoint the experienced trekkers as well. Experienced trekkers have the choice to trek further to Lahesh Cave or Indrahaar Pass.

Triund Trek length / Time taken for completing the Trek: The total length of the trek is 9 kms and the entire trek can be completed within 05 hours. Most part of the trek is easy despite of little steep stretches but last few kilometers is a bit challenging and is famous for 22 steep curves.

Triund Trek Reporting Location: The reporting location of Triund Trek is Dharamkot (hardly a km from McLeodganj bus stand). I took a package from Aliya Tour Packages who starts their trek from their local office located at a walking distance from McLeodganj bus stand. Trek also starts from Gallu Devi Temple. You can hire a taxi till Gallu Devi Temple which will reduce the trek length by a KM or two.

Facilities on Triund Trek: There are few cafes (small tea shops) on the way to Triund, however; carrying a water bottle and light snack is highly recommended.

Strictly Prohibited: Drinking (It is also advisable to avoid Smoking as it will impact breathing conditions). Bonfire too is not permitted.

Toilets: Don’t expect proper toilets while in Triund. Though make shift arrangements are available. The toilets tents are waterproof and will have a deep pit. I recommend you to carry Toilet Papers.

What to Carry / Triund packing list: You can easily give a skip to advance trekking gear.
