Trending Living Room Furniture Designs for 2023

by Milind P. Marketing Manager

Living room, as the name suggests, is a space where we live everyday moments and create memories. As the heart of the home, it needs to be warm, inviting, and an expression of your personal style.

After two years of isolation, it is time to open up our homes to loved ones – and what better way to do so than doing up our living room with thought and care.

In 2023, the design trends suggest a marriage between minimalism and maximalism. Vintage, natural, handcrafted, and curved furniture will also continue to be in trend. Rich, vibrant colors are here to stay but in muted tones, complemented by texture.

Here’s our perspective on the latest living room furniture trends, which would help you make a mindful choice when sprucing up the interiors.

Wabi-Sabi

The concept of Wabi-Sabi embraces all that’s imperfect or incomplete. A design material closest to its natural state lends texture and character to any piece of furniture. Tradition and innovation will co-exist this year, as in this Shifting Sands Inlay Coffee Table by Freedom Tree – a contemporary piece that celebrates the natural grains of mango wood. Their Koa Console in acacia wood is another sleek yet raw and asymmetric piece that lends organic charm to any living room.

Mediterranean Minimalism

Minimalist and sustainable modern furniture will continue to be in trend, characterized by neutral tones, whites, and warm accents. Minimalist pieces eliminate the need of superfluous accents, and shine in their sculptural and functional form. The Boomerang Bookshelf by Freedom Tree is minimalist yet in vogue. With modest yet artistic pieces such as the Sunburst Painted Side Table, less is definitely more.

Daybeds for Days

Maybe it is nostalgia or the element of being multifunctional, we are seeing a return to daybeds in 2023. Daybeds sport a clean, timeless look – and have a way of dividing large living rooms in two distinct spaces without being heavy on the eyes. Curves are back in trend among all furniture pieces, as seen in the Shanghai Pull-Out Bed from Freedom Tree.

Cultural Accent

Be it a textural element borrowed from a tribe or any artistic flair, it adds to the joy and character of a home. At Freedom Tree, the design team works with artisans from across the country to translate art as inlay or form, as in their Sej Sideboard or Dabke Side Table. Antiques add our own unique stamp on our spaces – they underline the design elements with flair yet seem personal.

Get ‘Em Curves

Rounded silhouettes will continue to have their moment in the sun, with the comfort and versatility they lend to any space. For minimalist spaces, curves will reflect ease and for maximalist rooms, personality. In both, they would blend ergonomics and grace. Be it the cushy Curved Sofa or the commanding Baro Marigold Accent Chair, both have their own place in the living rooms of 2023.

Pro Tip: Think of ways to bring the outdoors in through indoor plants, of creating an illusion of space with chaise lounges or multi-functional daybeds, or you can even create focal points with pendant lights. You can also cluster non-toxic candles together to elevate the ambience.
