Treatment of Afibrinogenemia and Hypofibrinogenemia Through Ayurveda

by Dr Vikram Chauhan Doctor

Abstract

Afibrinogenemia is an inherited (genetic) condition in which blood do not clot normally. It is also known as congenital afibrinogenemia as it occurs since birth and it occurs due to lack of coagulation factor 1 (fibrinogen). On the other side hypofibrinogenemia is an unusually low level of fibrinogen. It is less common than afibrinogenemia. We're gonna study in detail about both the conditions through this article, all about symptoms, causes and all. People thought that there is no treatment for these conditions but don’t worry we will ease the symptoms with ayurvedic herbs. Have a detailed look.

Introduction

Both afibrinogenemia and hypofibrinogenemia are the quantitative abnormalities of fibrinogen. Now the question arises what is fibrinogen- fibrinogen is a glycoprotein complex that is made in the liver and circulates in blood and through tissue and vascular injury it helps in clotting of blood. Both these defects result from mutations and affect the plasma fibrinogen levels. According to ayurveda it comes under beej dosha (genetic defect) that occurs at the time of conceiving. Proper diagnosis will help in curing the symptoms of both these conditions with ayurveda.

Afibrinogenemia and Hypofibrinogenemia

Symptoms of Afibrinogenemia and Hypofibrinogenemia

Symptoms of Afibrinogenemia: It is typically the most severe one among both the conditions and common symptoms that occurs in this condition are-

  • At birth, there is bleeding of the umbilical cord
  • Traumatic and surgical bleeding can’t stop easily
  • Spontaneous splenic rupture
  • GI tract, oral and mucosal bleeding
  • Intracranial hemorrhage is common
  • Heavy menstruation bleeding
  • Uncertain abortions in females

Symptoms of Hypofibrinogenemia: Mostly the symptoms are same as afibrinogenemia but are mild in nature. Symptoms included are bleeding of the GI tract, mucosa and oral cavity. Most commonly the bleeding occurs during the traumatic and surgical conditions.

Causes of Afibrinogenemia and Hypofibrinogenemia

Generally as discussed earlier both these conditions are genetically inherited, although there may be some other issues that may lead to fibrinogen deficiency one of the known reasons is liver diseases such as cirrhosis. As it is a genetic condition, afibrinogenemia is inherited from both the parents and hypofibrinogenemia is dominant type that may occur only if one parent is suffering from the same condition.

Diagnosis of Afibrinogenemia and Hypofibrinogenemia

If any of you experiencing the above-mentioned symptoms must go for the diagnostic measures for confirming the problem and get treated as soon as possible. And if you are going to plan a baby you must go for a diagnosis otherwise your child is gonna suffer from the same issue. Here we are mentioning some of the diagnostic techniques that one should go for confirming the diagnosis.

  • Immunoelectrophoresis
  • Partial thromboplastin time
  • Thrombin time
  • Reptilase time
  • Thrombin clotting time

These entire tests helps to diagnose and distinguish between the afibrinogenemia and hypofibrinogenemia as in hypofibrinogenemia levels of fibrinogen are less than 1.5 g/l and in afibrinogenemia the levels of fibrinogen are absent.

Ayurvedic View of Afibrinogenemia and Hypofibrinogenemia

As per Ayurveda both these conditions are correlated to beeja dosha that is both these conditions occur with the defect in beejbhaga that is the sperm and ovum. Ashuddha shukra (defected sperm) and ashuddha artava (defected ovum) are the main causes of both these conditions. If there is any defect in the gametes (sperm and ovum) of parents then the child should inherited with the disease. As both these conditions are genetic so we should not cure it but will treat the symptoms of these conditions with certain herbal remedies and improve the quality of the patient.

Ayurvedic Treatment of Afibrinogenemia and Hypofibrinogenemia

As we studied earlier the genetic conditions could not be cured but one can get rid of the symptoms with ayurvedic treatment.
