Travel Must Have - Leather Toiletry Travel Bag

by Marketing Consultant Business Growth Consultant

Travelling to a new place is always one big adventure, but there are many things that can put a damper into it. Picture this, you’ve just got to your hotel from the airport, and start unpacking and unwinding only to find this. Your shampoo bottle has exploded all over your favourite shirt. Now shampoo can be washed off easily, but no one wants to be in this scenario in the first place, and the only thing that could prevent this is a large leather toiletry bag, or a dopp kit.

When you head off into the distance on a backpacking trip, you need to get everything packed and stored in the correct manner, and that’s when you need the best leather toiletry bag to accommodate all your hygiene essentials.

Let’s find out more about men’s leather toiletry bag and its usage.

Types and Terminology

Mesh Wash Bag

Some wash bags are made from mesh, enabling you to see at a glance what the bag contains. The disadvantage of using such material is that if any products leak, the liquid will drain through the mesh. The term ‘Mesh Wash Bag’ might also refer to a laundry bag, a mesh bag in which delicate items can be placed to protect them from damage in the washing machine.

Hanging Wash Bag

A hanging wash bag has a hook at the top and is designed so that is can be suspended to display all the toiletry products, which are stored vertically in pouches. The bags are usually constructed from pliable, waterproof material that enables them to be rolled. These bags are compact to store and offer ease of access when suspended; consequently they are popular with backpackers and campers.

Roll up wash-bag

A space saving design, the roll up bag, made from flexible, water-proof material, can only accommodate small items. A large item, such as a brush, would prevent the bag from being rolled.

Makeup bag

It’s perfectly possible to use a wash bag as a makeup bag but most women don’t because the contents of a makeup bag are far more valuable than that of a toiletry bag and consequently they are usually stored in a purpose designed bag. Many makeup bags will have a hard-shell case in order to protect the valuable contents, they will also feature compartments specifically designed to accommodate, make up palettes, brushes and other beauty products.

Keep Your Dopp Kit Well Organized

To keep hygiene and liquid products well organized, it is necessary that you invest in reusable silicon bottles. Safe, easy to use and fully available as you go, you can use these to store everything you need. Just fill up your little bottles with things like mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner and anything else you need. This keeps space much more extensive.

Try and bring products with more than one use, so that you can get more out of the limited space that you presently have. It’s a major issue and something that you should look to try and better understand.

For example, you could use products like coconut oil for many different purposes, saving you the need to carry around so many cosmetic products.

Right with these tips you shouldn’t have too many issues. Even with a small men’s leather toiletry bag, you can fit a decent amount without missing out on carrying the essentials you need for your trip. Used right, a toiletry bag could make life so much easier.

Caring For The Toiletry Bag

1. Avoid Overfilling

Overfilling a leather bag can stretch it, alter its original shape and damage the material. It’s a good idea to get a large wash bag when you first invest in one so that it can fit everything you need without bulging.

2. Keep it Clean

If you notice spots of dirt, splashes of shaving cream or smears of toothpaste, wipe them away with a damp cloth. Leaving product or dirt on the leather could stain it or draw out the oils and moisture that keep the leather looking good which can lead to cracking.

3. Air It Out

This helps to prevent unpleasant smells building up inside the bag. Because leather isn’t a breathable material, it’s helpful to empty the wash bag out and leave it open every now and again. This airs it out and helps to freshen it up.

4. Keep Away From Direct Heat

Direct heat sources such as a radiator can dry out the leather and remove the natural oils it needs to stay in good condition. If it dries out, the leather will start to crack. It won’t look as good and won’t be as waterproof. Try to keep your wash bag away from direct heat, including sources like the direct hot air from a hair dryer.

5. Condition

Even if you keep it clean and away from direct heat, a genuine leather wash bag will need occasional conditioning to prevent it drying out. You can use a sponge to dab some baby oil or rapeseed oil onto the leather. These options will work effectively as a conditioner, but if you prefer you could buy a specialized leather conditioner or oil which would be even more effective.
