by Lead School Consultant

The Union Cabinet of the government of India introduced a new national education policy on 29 July 2020. This change in the education system has created a buzz among institutions. The NEP 2020 outlines the goals to transform the traditional education system of India with the new education system.

The first change was made in 1986; the previous scheme was a 10+2 model. The new policy, which was inducted, follows this pattern: 5+3+3+4. This article will help us understand the NEP 2020 Structure and FLN NIPUN Bharat and how this new policy will impact our country's education system.

What is NEP 2020?

India is about to bring necessary advancements to its education system with the help of the National Education Policy 2020. The latest changes are being implemented to replace the 34-year-old education system. The revised policy mainly focuses on teaching and learning online, longer school days, and a shift from rote learning to conceptual learning.

The New Education Policy 2020 aims to make education more flexible, experiential, comprehensive, pleasant, and learner-oriented. Students at multiple levels will have access to education, regardless of their social or economic backgrounds. Now, let us understand the NEP 2020 Structure in detail.

NEP 2020 Structure

NEP 2020 strives to make India a “Global Knowledge Superpower” by transforming school curriculum over the coming decade. For this, it launched a new education structure with four stages that is 5+3+3+4. These new stages complement the most recent educational trends around the globe, in which the school’s educational structure will be transformed to be flexible and relevant to the newly emerging educational needs of students at different stages of learning from ages 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18 years.

The 5 Years Foundation Stage (from age Three years to age Seven years)

According to the NEP 2020, the basic level of learning will foster 3 years of pre-school or Anganwadi education for classes 1, 2, and 3, followed by two years of primary school classes 1 and 2. This stage will focus on activity-based learning and language development of a child.

The 3 Years Preparatory Stage (from age Eight to Eleven)

As per the new education policy 2020, the preparatory period will continue to focus on numerical abilities and language development of learners of classes 3rd to 5th, with indoor-based learning and outdoor activities.

The 3 Years Middle Stage (from age Eleven to Fourteen)

This stage of school instruction will focus on essential learning objectives, a shift from the traditional learning methods that have long been used in our education system. It will focus on providing experiential learning in the Sciences, Arts, Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Humanities.

The 4 Years Secondary Stage (from ages Fourteen to Eighteen)

This stage will cover 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade classes. The most significant change in these classes is the transition to an interdisciplinary system where students can choose various topic integrations based on their interests and talents.

What is FLN NIPUN Bharat?

FLN NIPUN Bharat is an initiative under the NEP 2020. It aims to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy skills at the primary level for primary school students by the year 2025. This flagship program aims to enhance early childhood learning by offering thorough training sessions for teachers, engaging society and communities to improve fundamental learning, carrying out impactful assessment and monitoring mechanisms, and more.

To Wrap It Up

Broader efforts are necessary to ensure quality education for every citizen in India and transform the country’s education system. FLN NIPUN Bharat, an initiative under NEP 2020, effectively ensures these efforts. As a result, the education scheme changed from 10+2 to 5+3+3+4. It provides many student development schemes in the schools that are on to grow. The NEP 2020 Structure is a game-changer that seeks to transform the country into a thriving knowledge superpower.
