Traditional Advertising Still Works!

by Mike S. When destiny speaks, she speaks to
New digital marketing agencies spring up every day. For every new agency, someone stops using a traditional method of marketing. Inbound marketers swear up and down that traditional advertising channels no longer work. Is this really true?

Traditional means of advertising still work. Don't let the inbound guys and gals fool you. And if they're done right, they still have a great ROI as well. Why not use both?

How do you make this happen? Keep reading. I've got the skinny on what you need to know.

Charity Events and Sponsorship Opportunities

Take care of your community. Sponsoring an event or charity function is great advertising and PR!You will be helping out the people you see every day and promoting your business. It doesn't get any better than that.

How does it work?

When you become a sponsor, the people running the show will promote it using a variety of channels, such as local newspapers and radio. When they run these ads, they will mention you, their beloved sponsor.

Now let's talk about non-charity events. Sponsoring a local food festival or softball league still has a ton of benefits. Banners with the name of your business will be displayed everywhere.

Sure, not everyone who attends is going to be interested in your product or service. But keeping your brand where every eye can see them is a big part of marketing.

This is a form of traditional advertising that still has lots of value. Cross-promote on digital platforms for maximum ROI. Mention the event you're sponsoring on social media, as well as your company blog and anywhere else a prospective client might see your company name.

Flyers

One traditional strategy that still works are flyers. They work for a regular business and you can also use it for side hustles and personal projects.

You can post flyers anywhere. Even online.

Internet flyers and coupons are a big deal with thrifty consumers. These folks look all over the web to find deals and discounts. This demographic is a group you don't want to pass over like many other companies unfortunately do.

Find sites that host digital flyers. Some of them will allow you to create them and promote them yourself. Some will even let you do it for free.

What About Other Printed Options?

For those of you who don't have one, you should definitely look into getting a printed marquee for tradeshows and other events where you want your name to stand out in the crowd. What's a digital marketer going to do for your business at one of these events? Absolutely nothing.

The Bottom Line

You can still be effective with traditional marketing. Combining the old with the new, thinking outside of the box, and using your resources effectively will get you there. It's not a matter of traditional vs. digital.

The old school, “Just make a TV ad” way doesn’t really work anymore. This is true and that form of advertising is definitely a thing of the past. People are going outside. They're getting rid of cable. Netflix has pretty much taken over the world.

If you want the most ROI for your business, you need to go to the customer. If you wait for them to come to you, someone else will scoop them up along the way.
