by Joe Morgan Sales Manager
When it is the time for renovation of home, taking the right decision gets a difficult task. Most of the times, it gets confusing which material you should pick for different parts of your home. For kitchens, most of the people always have a tough time choosing between quartz and granite worktops.

Here are some tips that will help you in choosing the right worktop for your kitchen and whether quartz ones will be better for you or granite ones: -

Colour

If going by the colour is your primary priority, choose granite ones if you want to go for the basic harmonious colours. However, if you want that your kitchen should look colourful after renovation and match with the new bright themes, you should go for quartz worktops. They are available in a wide range of colours and you will easily find your desired colour in quartz.

Heat resistance

Both these materials are good for kitchen and do not get damaged with regular heat. However, putting the extremely hot vessel on a quartz top can damage it. Granite is stronger in this way. Though it does not get damaged, a mark is left on the surface if you place an extremely hot vessel on it. These marks can be removed using granite cleaners or a combination of mild soap and water.

Scratch resistance

A worktop in the kitchen tends to get damaged with a large number of scratches faster as compared to a similar surface in some other part of your home. This makes it important that you go for a stronger surface at the time of renovation so that your kitchen stays good looking for a long time. Though both quartz and granite kitchen worktops are usually scratch resistant, quartz kitchen worktops are stronger and will not get scratched so easily making it right for your kitchen.

Stain resistance

Kitchen worktops will surely get all types of tough stains. So, it is important that you choose a stain resistant material while deciding a worktop. Granite can absorb some stains but quartz is better in this aspect. It is completely non-porous and easy to clean making it perfect for your kitchen.

Breakage

Though both these materials are strong, the worktop can break if you drop some heavy object on it. Sometimes it can just be a crack or a layer might chip off. Therefore, you should take care of both these materials in your kitchen in the right manner.

Maintenance

Both these materials are low in maintenance. You just need a regular soap and water and you will be able to clean your worktop easily. If you want added shine, you can use special cleaners and even go for the polishing of your worktop as well to renew its life.

Hygiene

In terms of hygiene, quartz wins over granite. Though both of them can be cleaned easily, quartz wins here because of its antibacterial qualities. So, if you have a habit of doing the preparation of your cooking directly on the worktop, you should go for quartz ones.
