by Neha Sharma Digital marketing head

Modern lifestyles often lead to extreme stress and exhaustion. This often leads to numerous physical ailments like hypertension, body aches, migraine, insomnia, etc.  One of the best ways to deal with these stress-induced problems is to go for Ayurvedic treatment at a wellness resort.

Some of the best Ayurvedic therapies are:

Shirodhara

Herbal oils, butter milk, coconut water or plain water is gently poured on the forehead in a rhythmic way in this form of Ayurvedic treatment. Shirodhara helps in dealing with mental strain, anxiety, stress, headaches, insomnia, hair problems, cerebro-vascular diseases and neurological disorders. This gentle head bath relaxes the hypothalamus in our brain, which in turn, helps to normalize sleep patterns and improve the memory.

Abhyanga

This is a very common therapeutic oil massage that can be availed in any Ayurvedic wellness resort. Pre-medicated oils are mixed with medicinal herbs, which are then applied to the body in downward strokes. The special oil penetrates deep into our skin’s cellular level and flushes out all excess toxins from the body. The oil massage works to relieve all physical stress from your tight muscles. It helps with stiffness of any body parts and promotes general good health.

Pizhichil

This is another popular form of treatment offered in every Ayurvedic wellness resort. Medicated oils are poured into lukewarm water and the whole body is given a bath with the steady stream of this water along with a simultaneous body massage applied with very soft pressure. As the oil is applied all over the body, this process is also known as Sarvangadhara. Pizhichil helps to build up your immune system, protecting the body from any illnesses. This treatment is most used for arthritis, paralysis, rheumatic diseases, sexual weakness and neurological disorders.

Kizhi

Warm cloth pouches containing special ingredients are used in this Ayurvedic massage. Kizhi treatment has different names depending on the ingredient used inside the warm pouches. Podi Kizhi uses dry powdered herbs; Ela Kizhi uses raw herbs, mainly leaves and roots; Navara Kizhi uses special Navara Rice; and Manal Kizhi uses sand particles. The warm cloth pouches help to relive joint and muscular pain by improving blood circulation and tissue strength. This Ayurvedic treatment can cure body aches, lower back pain, joints pain, arthritis, spondylosis, slip disc problems and certain paralytic conditions.

Netra Tharpanam

This is a rejuvenation treatment for the eyes and its surrounding tissues. Dough rings made of black-gram flour are placed around the eye area, and a pure form of medicated ghee is gently poured on to the eyes while kept open. This is an effective therapy for reducing eye strain, burning sensation in the eyes, dryness of eyes, blurred vision, conjunctivitis, myopia, night blindness and cataracts. It also helps to strengthen the eye muscles.

Bashpa Sweda

This is a sudation therapy. Medicinal herbal oils are applied all over the body and then you sit in a closed steam chamber to induce heavy sweating. This increases the body temperature, which in turn, improves blood circulation. This form of Ayurvedic therapy can help with arthritis, paralysis, sciatica, parkinsonism, cervical spondylitis, muscular hypertrophy, and motor neuron disease.
