Sexually transmitted diseases might not be as common as other health problems but several of them have been known for affecting a significant number of people. Following is a brief overview of top five sexually transmitted diseases along with symptoms:

·         Syphilis- Usually known as bad blood, syph, and pox; syphilis tops the list of most common STDs. It gets transferred when a subject comes in direct contact with a sore or wound. The primary reason for this disease is a bacteria called spirochetes that enters a subject's body during sexual intercourse. It passes to other internal organs through blood after entering the body. The incubation period of syphilis varies from 10 days - 09 days. The initial symptoms of this disease are painless sores, hair loss, sore throat, and a few others.

·         Gonorrhea - Nicknamed as Clap, GC, and Drip, gonorrhea is transmitted through direct contact between infected mucuous membranes. Organs that play primary role in this process are anus, mouth, genitals, and all other such organs that have mucuos membranes. Genorrhea mainly infects urethra in men because of which they experience constant inflammation, painful discharge of urine, and pus formation. Women, on the contrary, might experience vaginal discharge and constant irritation.

·         Venereal Warts - Venereal warts or condylomata acuminate is a viral disease that causes cauliflower shaped red colored scars and sores. They usually appear near rectum or vagina and grow at a fast pace whenever they come in contact with any kind of vaginal discharge. In males, these sores appear near rectal area and penis.

·         Pubic Lice - Also known as crab lice these are always transmitted through sexual interactions. Pubic lice are gray and yellow in color and are always found attached with pubic hair. Presence of these lice causes consistent itching and irritation due to bites of these parasites. It is very important to cure both partners to prevent re-infestation of this disease. These parasites feed on blood of their subject the sores of which causes intense burning and itching to the subject.

·         HIV/AIDS - The most famous STD, it is the longest known disease with respect to sexual health. There are several modes of transmission of this disease but the most common ones are sexual intercourse and blood of infected person. Pregnant ladies suffering with HIV or AIDS also transfer this disease to their kids. Last but not the least, HIV/AIDS can also be transmitted through infected syringes. Basic symptoms of this disease are malaise, fever, weight loss, tuberculosis, diarrhea, and skin cancer. In short, the patient loses its immunity against all kind of diseases and might succumb to even the most mild and small health problems.
