Tips to Extend the Life of Your Refrigerator

by Amaara S. A passionate blogger

Any appliance, whether it is an air conditioner or best refrigerators in India that we use has a lifespan. If used efficiently and maintained well, we can increase its life expectancy. Did you know that a well-maintained fridge runs for anywhere between 14 to 17 years? Avoiding the maintenance of appliances is like ignoring one’s health. If we do not maintain an appliance, then the efficiency reduces, which leads to dysfunction. The appliance thus becomes redundant.

Here are 7 tips that could help you extend the life of your refrigerator:

1. Placing your refrigerator right

To prevent the best refrigerators in India from wearing out easily, do not place it near appliances that produce more heat. Keep your fridge away from such sources; a few examples are oven, dishwasher, window, etc. This additional heat causes it to run more frequently, but it also increases the electricity bill.

2. Hot Air Flow

Did you know that hot air expands? It needs enough space to evaporate. Pressure increases once the airflow reduces. If it reaches an alarming level, the tripping of the high/low switch happens. Keep adequate space between the wall and the fridge. If you do not do so, then the area between the fridge and the wall will heat up.

3. Give your condenser a fitness check

To prevent the condenser from blocking:

  1. Clean the condenser tubes from time to time. Scaling is generally ignored due to its thin appearance and is not considered a probable cause for refrigerator’s performance reduction. Akin to perception, if ignored, it can reduce efficiency. Clean it either by hand or using chemicals.
  2. Always maintain the water levels inside the condenser.

4. Use purified water

A major culprit of the increase in infections is contaminated water. Our body contains around 50-75 percent of water. The performance of the refrigerators is also affected due to the quality of water used in making ice cubes, etc. Always use purified water.

5. Set the right temperature

If you have noticed that when a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius is set in the best air conditioners in India, it saves you the hassle of turning it off every 10 minutes and gives you a lighter electricity bill, similarly, maintaining a temperature of 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit inside the fridge and zero degrees in the freezer can increase its efficiency.

6. Organise your fridge

To reduce the total amount of time, your fridge and freezer are open, place the groceries and food items in an orderly fashion. This way, the fridge will not overwork itself in keeping the items cool while you rummage through the racks.

The compressor ends up working extra hard if the jars and vessels kept inside are open. Why? The moisture levels inside the fridge increase, thanks to the open food items. Making it a practice to close the jars will also help prevent contamination of food.

Always keep the fridge only three-fourth full. It neither should be packed to full capacity nor be completely unoccupied. By practising this rule, the fridge doesn’t overwork itself to maintain the temperatures.

7. Check the fridge gasket

Always keep the refrigerator’s gasket clean. One way to do so is by cleaning it with soap water at regular intervals. This helps in preventing them from cracking and drying. Gaskets also have a lifespan and need to change from time to time. If you can easily pull-out a piece of paper between the fridge and the gasket, then it is time to change it. Cold air escapes if the gasket is faulty.

By practicing simple maintenance routines, we can ensure that some of our appliances like – refrigerators, best air conditioners in India, etc. keep running efficiently for years to come. I hope the above tips are useful.
