TENS treatment promises a totally non-invasive and safer way to give relief from pain. However, the relief can be on a temporary basis. But if you are a frequent user of the TENS device, it becomes essentially important to take care of the device properly. A little maintenance is essential for the part.

The pads for TENS machine must be taken care of properly. You must make sure that they are not losing out on the stickiness. Taking care of the pads is not a big issue. Here are some tips to get things done properly.

Let's start:

  • Caring for the Skin
Before applying the pads on the skin, you need to clean the area of the skin with gentle mild soap and water. This also helps in removing the excess oil from the skin that can result in affecting the stickiness of the pads. Therefore, you wash clean the area of the skin where the pad would be applied.

  • Caring for the Pads
The TENS pads need to be cleaned properly. After the usage, you must make sure that the pads are cleaned properly with a soft, clean, and moist cloth. It's always better to use a dishcloth or towel for the cleaning purpose since that would prevent the chances of leaving any residue on the pad surfaces.

  • Rotating the Electrode Pads
One common reason for non-stickiness of the electrode pads is because of their ability to become over saturated. Well, there's absolutely no harm in using a TENS unit often, but then, you also should give your skin some break from time to time. The TENS machine must be given some break from time to time. They also need to recover. So you must give them breathing space. You must rotate the electrode pads every 6-8 hours to let them dry out properly. This will help in creating a longer shelf life for the pads.

  • Use water to Hydrate the Pads
You must hydrate the pads using clean water. A few drops of water would be just fine. You need to bring back the stickiness. Moisten the pad using water droplets and things will be all fine. However, never saturate them or else the entire scenario would go horribly wrong.

  • Cooling off the Electrode Pads
To ensure a faster drying process, it is best to put the pads in a frost-free freezer. Simply leave them in the freezer for 24 hours. The lack of humidity along with cool temperature will help in drying the pads real fast while restoring them into a suitable usable condition.

TENS treatment can be effective if done under strict supervision of an expert. At the same time, the device functionality also comes with the scanner. The pads being used must be suitable and perfectly sticky. You should follow the above-mentioned tips to ensure best of results when undergoing the TENS treatment process. Also, a crucial tip: never continue the treatment for more than 15 minutes at a stretch.
