Tips for Carefree Car Rental in Philippines on Holiday!
by Dillon Patterson Article PublisherRenting a car on vacation gives you
freedom. With your hair in the wind, you can explore the region at your own
pace. You visit the places you want and choose the best roads yourself.
However, in certain cases, a leisurely ride in a rented car can cause a lot of
stress when things go wrong. Save yourself the stress with our ten most
remarkable tips!
Plan a Route in Advance
Not necessarily, but it can be
interesting if you know in advance which cities you want to pass by. For
example, you can look up where the local rental offices are located and
consider leaving your car elsewhere than the point where you picked up your
car. This saves you fuel costs to return to the starting point. Often you also
have a limited number of kilometres that you can travel per day. For example,
if you have 100 km free per day and have driven 480 km after 4 days, this means
that in addition to the car rental of 4 days, you also have to pay an
additional price per kilometre.
Compare Different Providers
The cost depends on several
variables. With one car rental company, the basic price will be
cheapest, while with another, you will find a total price that will be cheaper
with the insurance and surcharges included. Always check whether there are
ongoing promotions that could be of interest to you.
Choose a Number of Additional
Insurance Policies
With your basic package, you can
take out a number of additional insurance policies, including, for example, a
PEC (Personal Effects Coverage). This is insurance for your luggage. However,
it is more important to arrange good theft insurance. On holiday your car can
be stolen, leading to major annoyances if you only had a TP or THW. Therefore,
it is better to go for an STP (Super Theft Waiver). This is a theft insurance
with a very low or no deductible. If you do not want to worry at all and are
willing to pay a higher price for this, it is recommended to have a
Read The Fine Print
Almost superfluous to mention, yet
so often overlooked. Each company has its own contract with specific
conditions. It may be that you are not insured across the land border under
these rules or have to pay extra for this. Some companies have a special bonus
malus for certain more expensive cars or for drivers who are not yet very
experienced. For example, a driver under the age of 21 or sometimes even under
the age of 30 may not be allowed to drive all cars or that a car rental company is charged in the event
of damage.
Study The Damage Beforehand
Before you take delivery of a car, it
is extremely important that you, together with the rental company, fully check
the car for damage.
Avoid discussions and especially
high costs by indicating all scratches and dents on the form. Pay particular
attention to the rims or wheel covers and the mirrors. It is often the case
that the car's damage was not noted when it was collected, but it was noted
when it was returned. Ultimately, the car rental company applies the rule
"it was not there when you got the car, but it is there now that you
return it". Of course, the driver is not aware of any harm at the start,
but initially, he has signed that the scratch was not on it. He, therefore, has
no right to speak if the damage is only noticed afterwards.
Avoid a Refuelling Fee
This is the cost you have to pay if
you do not return the car with a full tank. Every society uses a different
policy to calculate this. The formula usually includes the number of litres
remaining x the official pump price, plus an additional cost of up to 30% of
the amount, plus any administration costs.
Don't Get Put in The Bag
Make clear agreements, and don't
forget that you are nowhere if something is not on paper. Always ask for a copy
of the car's condition and a written confirmation that you have returned the
car with a full tank at the start of the rental. Do not forget that you almost
always have to provide a credit card for the car's guarantee and to book the
rental car. By signing the contract, the rental companies are authorized to
debit money from your account in the event of damage or failure to fill up the
car. Unfortunately, this is sometimes abused, and rental companies thus make a
nice profit at the expense of unsuspecting tourists.
