Three steps to finding your dream bodyguard job

by Executive Protection Institute EPI was founded in 1978

Once you have completed your personal protection officer (PPO) training, getting your first job will undoubtedly be high on your list of priorities. However, there are a few things you will need to do right after your training ends to land that first job.

Step 1: First, you need to apply for and obtain your license. After you have completed your personal protection training, it could take you anywhere between four and twelve weeks before you get your license. You should bear this delay in mind if you consider giving up your regular work while waiting for your license.

Step 2: Once you are a licensed PPO, you need to find a staffing agency that can pair you with clients. You could always just look up some of the agencies near you online. If any agency has an open position, send out your resume and wait for a call. You can also take the freelance route to make it big as a bodyguard. Although you must remember that this route requires you to market your own protection business to find clients — it might take a while. You can also ask instructors and other students in your training course to help expand your business circle.

Step 3: Found a client? You might have to run a professional background check on yourself before you are hired. A background check ensures that you are a credible professional and do not have a criminal record. The best part is that it does not cost a lot of money to get a good background check. You do not have to worry about getting a background check if you are using a staffing agency, as they will do for you.

Some people find that securing their first job after their bodyguard training is the toughest hurdle in their professional life, which is why many end up giving up after a few unsuccessful attempts.

But when it comes to making it big as a PPO, the harder you work, the luckier you get.

Once you have the experience of the first job added to your resume, the second job will be easier to find and the third easier still.
