Three Facts About Stem Cell Treatment

by Kristen White Blogger
Today, stem cells have become a widely studied method of dealing with a wide scope of diseases and other health conditions. Studies have seen positive results and it was primarily seen when researchers tried using blood stem cells as solution to blood-related diseases. This might have been the best stem cell treatment as it was recorded to treat leukaemia on thousands of children.

The possibility of stem cell treatment as a primary method of treating conditions was further strengthened when researchers utilized stem cells to treat conditions related to the bones through tissue grafts.

However, there are still more studies that need to be done. The medicine industry still needs to uncover an extensive amount of undiscovered information regarding stem cells. Right now, little information about stem cells is available for the public to have a general sense of what stem cells can and cannot do.

1.Not All Stem Cell Treatment Are Proven Safe

While it has seen very positive results in treating blood and bone-related diseases, that is not even a quarter of conditions that a human body may get. Transplantation of stem cells in the blood or implanting them as tissue to the bones and skin have already been proven. However, outside of these perimeters, there are still unknown risks of stem cell treatment.

2.Unsafe Stem Cell Treatment May Have Consequences

It is easy to just consider something new when you are dealing with a disease that has no proven solution. But, treatment using stem cells that are still in experiment and no proven scientific benefits could draw more setbacks than advantages. Among these risks are:
Undergoing experimental treatment may result in complications that might become a problem in the long term. This may make other symptoms hard to treat.
Experimental treatments could result in ineligibility for upcoming trials.
You may not benefit from medical insurance as most of them do not include experiments in their plan.

3.Different Stem Cells are for Different Purposes

One misconception that many people make is that stem cells are universal and no matter where they are sourced from the body, they can be used anywhere. That really is not the case.

Researchers are still trying to understand how stem cells work and currently, it is confirmed that stem cells from a certain part of the body are only limited to generating cells that are in the same part where they are from. For example, stem cells that are sourced on bone marrows can only produce blood cells.

This means that blood stem cells have little chance of being effective as treatment for neural diseases. So, do not believe when a clinic says that they can offer you treatment by sourcing stem cells from parts that are not related to your particular condition.

The studies to find the best stem cell treatment still has a long way to go. A lot of trials, experiments, and adjustments need to be made in order to perfect this concept of medical treatment. For now, people can only hope for a faster turnaround of the studies made to further understand this new advancement in the medicine industry.
