Three Factors to Take Into Consideration before Designing a Logo

by Susan Mary Custom Logo Designer
Your brand's logo is how your clients recognize your business forming the basis of its identity. All companies desire a logo that communicates the brand's vision and mission along with being aesthetically appealing to aid in recognition and recall. However, to do so, one might require striking a balance between the targets. Following are the elements that you should take into consideration before designing a logo:

Your logo is more than just a design

A business logo does not only have to be a compelling design; it is more than that. The logo of your brand acts as a communication tool. It is imperative that the logo design communicates the story more than the overall aesthetically appealing look. Most of the top brands in the market convey some valuable information regarding their brands through effective logos.

Give your logo a shape

When the human brain sees a shape, it starts to process the definite shape to a certain message. Shapes such as circle, square, and triangle, etc. mean something when included in a logo. You will have an effective logo design if it is in the context of a distinct shape. Here is what you should know about shapes before designing a logo:

  • Circle: If your logo is in a circular shape then it will emanate a positive vibe. Circles in the context of logos describe the human connection. The best example is LG.
  • Square: A square shape in the context of logos resonates balance and stability. The best example is the logo of LinkedIn.
  • Triangle: Triangle shape in the context of logos evokes an association with power and science. For example, Google Drive.

Select the right font

It is important to choose the right font for your logo as it should be as attractive as the tagline of your brand. Typography is also significant as it brings out the overall feel of the design.  A really good design with bad typography forms a poor combination and can take away from the overall feel of your logo. Like shapes, font plays an integral role in communicating a particular message. For instance, if you are looking to give a traditional look and feel, Times New Roman is the best choice. On the other hand, Helvetica is considered as a modern font.

Designing a logo with the right combination of shape, color, message, and design can result in making a mark for the intended target audience.
