Things to Pack if You’re Moving Out for the First Time

by David Holmes Off-Campus Housing

Moving out for the first time is an exciting time in every person’s life, especially if you are going out as a student to study at a university. If you are planning to live in one of the off-campus apartments in Bloomsburg or any other city, it is imperative that prepare yourself well for living there.

Here’s a comprehensive list of all the items you need to pack if you are shifting to an off-campus apartment:

1. Clothing

Well, this comes first on every list. Pack your college uniform or formals if your college requires you to wear that. Then pack casual wear including jeans, T-shirts, tops/shirts. Equally important are your indoor clothes like PJs, shorts, tees, and night wear clothes. For any events or parties, keep dresses or shirts. Also remember to keep winterwear items.

Another thing you shouldn’t miss is undergarments/innerwear. Keep socks, belts, and other accessories. And don’t forget to keep slippers and other footwear!

2. Toiletries

This is another important segment of items you must carry to your rented apartment in a new city. This includes items of oral hygiene (toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.), personal hygiene (soap, facewash, shampoo, etc.), towels, sanitary napkins, deodorants, sunscreen, moisturiser, comb, nail cutter, shaving kit, and detergent.

3. Electronic Gadgets, Documents, Money

This include your phone, laptop, and other devices, and chargers of each device. Earphones, contact glasses/lenses, books, umbrella, should also be kept. Also don’t forget your college related documents, books, notebooks, personal IDs, etc.

Before leaving home, make sure you have enough cash handy. Remember to keep your debit/credit cards too. Last but not the least, keep all your books, notebooks, and stationery items with you.

4. Medicines

If you have been prescribed any kind of medicine, it should be one of the first things you should pack. Apart from that, it would be wise to keep items like fever and cold medicines or syrups, eye, nasal or ear drops, laxatives, pain relief ointments and pills, ORS, etc. It is also advisable to keep a first aid kid. This includes antiseptics, cotton, bandages, etc.

5. Makeup/Jewellery

It’s really disappointing when you forget one of these, so make sure you don’t. Keep your eye makeup, your skin makeup items like foundation, compact, highlighter, lipsticks and lip balms, nail polish and nail polish remover, etc. Keep your makeup remover and cotton pads too.

6. Love from home!

This is highly personal – It could be homemade cookies, a sweater knitted by your mum, or simply your favourite novel.

Here are the major categories of items you need to take with yourself when moving into a student apartment. However, packing your bags is not enough. It is also important to choose the right place to live in. If you’re looking for student apartments in Bloomsburg, make sure you take certain factors into consideration. The apartment should be in a good location. Essential facilities like markets, hospitals, etc. should be nearby. Moreover, it should not be located too far from your university, as commuting to and fro would be a waste or money and time. Moreover, the locality should be safe and secure. Another thing to check is the facilities in the apartment. Make sure that it is adequately furnished. Make sure that the water, gas, and power supply is consistent. The building should be in a pleasant condition, so that the environment is conducive for studies and overall happiness. Last but not the least, check that the building has enough safety and security provisions.
