Things to Keep in Mind Before Getting Ready for Your First Bikini Contest

by Competition Suit shop Competition Suit Shop

Thinking about joining a bikini competition? Brilliant news! But, what even is a bikini competition, you ask? Well, if you are a newbie then be sure to know that it's not like any other competition you have seen before. This one's a bodybuilding show, and it's a bit fancier and muscular. Instead of the crowd cheering for you, judges judge you based on different categories. And guess what? Depending on the competition and category, you can win prizes like a Pro Card, cash, muscle mommy titles and more.

But here's the deal – getting ready for a bikini competition takes commitment and money. Yes, you need to create a budget beforehand for things like your competition bikini suit, gym trainer, posing coach, stage tan, jewelry, makeup, hair, etc.

Before diving in, do some research. Check out different organizations hosting these competitions. Will the organization be a good fit for your future goals? Are there shows near you, or do you have to travel? These are important things to think about before picking your first competition. And if you're unsure regarding anything, don't feel stupid or shy – ask previous competitors and their experiences. They love sharing their experiences, both the good and not-so-good parts.

But wait, what is your purpose for competing?

Okay, so when you're thinking about why you want to compete, some folks might say they're in it to win it. But here's the deal – winning isn't always in your control. There are things like what the judges like and who else is competing that you can't change. So, instead of just aiming to win, focus on what you can control – you!

Figure out why you want to compete. Is it to lose some weight, show off your skills as a trainer, or just have a good time? Take a moment to think about future body goals, and maybe write them down on a piece of paper if it helps. Getting ready for a fitness bikini competition can be a tough road, with ups and downs. But if you remember why you're doing it, it can help you keep going, even when things get tough and you feel like quitting. Keep this in mind, and you'll be your most confident self no matter what happens in the show!

Finding the right organization is IMPORTANT!

As a newbie competitor in the world of bodybuilding competition, there are different organisations you can choose from depending on your muscle definition, goals, etc. There’s INBA, WBFF, NPC, IFBB etc. What you gotta do is check them out, see what rules they have, when and how often they have competitions from where you live, and figure out which one suits your goals the best. You can also choose from different competition categories like - Bikini, Figure, Wellness, Physique, Bodybuilding etc.

How long does it take to train for a fitness bikini competition?

Okay, so, how long does it take to get ready for one of these competitions? This completely depends on how fit you are, but on average it can take about 14 to 16 weeks. But why so long? Because losing fat and building lean muscle takes time. Just like you didn't gain weight in just one night, right? So, you're not going to lose it super fast either. Losing about one to two pounds a week is pretty normal and healthy and recommended by physicians.

And getting ready for your first show is not a piece of cake for anyone. Why? Because you can't just grab a candy bar or a snack whenever you feel like it, especially if you're dealing with some emotional stuff, like your cycle. There will be a bunch of ups and downs during the long 14 to 16-week time period, and that's totally okay.

To make things a little less stressful, you can seek comfort from a friend or partner. Ask for their support, understanding, and love. If you want to win the competition, you need to make a team effort!

Do I need to have a diet plan?

Your diet plays one of the biggest roles in the entire competition. Food is super important. Even if we do the same workouts, the one who eats healthier will do better on stage. No cutting corners here, okay? It's a good idea to get a nutritionist or a coach who knows bikini competition meal planning to help you with your meals. Your meals should be balanced between enough protein and carbs. Also, drink at least 1 to 2 gallons of water every day and take your supplements.

Now, your food plan will start with more calories. But as you get closer to your competition day the calories will reduce and so will your training. A good coach will check in with you often about how you're doing. The journey won't be the easiest but the end results always are.

What do the judges look for?

Now, what are the judges looking for? Well, the most important thing they look for is how balanced and in shape you are based on the competition you are competing in. They will also judge you based on how you walk and present yourself on stage, your style, the competition bikini you pick, and your overall appearance such as hair, makeup, and tan.

Bikini competitors aim for a fit and toned body without a lot of muscle mass. It's different from figure competitions where the emphasis is on having well-defined lines and overall muscle tone. On your fitness bikini competition day, you need to have a toned and tight figure with a bit of femininity.

Remember in order to look attractive, vibrant, confident, and maybe a bit sexy you need to have confidence in yourself. Got it?

How to find the right fitness bikini suit?

None of this hard work will be worth it if you do not have the right competition bikini suit on your final competition day.

Look into other competitors who have a similar body shape and skin tone as you. Check out what colors and styles of suits they're going for. Also, your competition bikini needs to fit perfectly. The Bikini top and bottom should fit in the right places and not be loose.

This is why you can visit - Competition Suits Shop’s and select your dream fitness bikini suit from them. They offer more than 150 competition suits made from the finest materials and their sizing never goes wrong. So you shine bright on stage!

After so much hard work, do not forget to have fun!
