The Wonderful Choice of Cafes In The Town Of Whitby
by Wonderful Whitby Web designerAs
more and more people are discovering the delights of the wonderful town of
Whitby, it is becoming a magnet for the visiting holidaymakers and day
trippers. Due to its location it is
easily accessible from Teesside and Cleveland via bus and rail link as well as
from the various parts of Yorkshire, ie, North, South, West and East! As the town is featured in the press and on
the television, so the popularity grows.
In
years gone by when the town was more renowned for its fishing industry than for
tourism, the facilities for visitors were limited. Obviously due to its prominence in the eyes
of the general public, the recreational and tourism side of the town has grown
tremendously.
One
aspect which has flourished is the catering side to tourism. Anyone visiting the town, upon arrival, is
generally thinking about refreshment.
Here, Whitby excels in the department of food and drink.
The
abundance of Whitby cafes ensures that all choices are catered for. The humble café still exists but in addition
there are numerous specialist cafes which have opened their doors in recent
years.
The
term ‘café’ also encompasses the ‘fish and chip’ shops, many in number as would
be obvious in a seaside town, but it can also cover the newly opened ‘pie’
eateries, the ‘ice-cream’ parlours, the ‘Chocolate-fountain’ cafes and the
popular pizzerias.
The
harbour and the town centre is where there is a more concentrated number of
café establishments but, by and large, there is a café to be found almost
anywhere within a quarter mile radius of the River Esk.
It
is just as well that there are high numbers of cafes as the town can be swamped
at any particular day with coach trips bringing in the visitors wishing to
visit this most popular town. Early
morning will bring the local fishermen and the visiting fishing parties eager
to sustain their day’s fishing with a hearty breakfast and pack up lunch. Ladies who ‘lunch’ and also ladies who ‘shop’
are to be seen enjoying their ‘elevenses’ or ‘morning coffee’ whilst spending
time in the centre. The ‘coach’ parties
are a major source of income for many of the cafes near to the ‘pick-up’ and
‘drop-off’ points. They are more than
likely the first port of call upon arrival and the last port of call before the
journey home!
Each
of the cafes has their own particular style and menu. This can vary from the traditional fish and
chips, pie and mash or more commonly, nowadays, paninis, ciabattas and
wraps. There is no doubt that the town
of Whitby is keeping the visitors happy with their varied choice of café
options.
