Multiple myeloma (MM) is a cancer caused by abnormal plasma cells which accumulated in the bone marrow to interfere normal blood cells’ production. Plasma cells produce antibodies to against disease and infection in our body. If it is get problems, our body’s immune system will be too weak to protect our body. MM sometimes will travel through our body blood stream and thus it can affect many organs. It is more common in the elderly people who are over the age of 50, especially the male.

Most of the patients can be diagnosed with blood tests, bone examination, urine electrophoresis, and other methods like X-rays. But the other few may not be easily diagnosed, because the symptoms and signs vary greatly. Here are some common possible symptoms.

Bone pain: About 70% of patients with multiple myeloma suffered from bone pain which can be represented as spine and ribs, worsen activity and even bone fracture. They can be found especially in spine, ribs, pelvis, head, arm, or leg and you can not give an explanation such as you fell down on a rock.

Infection: The most common infections are found in lungs and kidneys. They are especially dangerous during the initial few months and may get worse to immune deficiency.

Renal failure: It may be both acute and chronic. It is mostly caused by the effects of the light chains in which the too much bone reabsorb causing high level of calcium in the blood and the calcium deposited to reduce kidney function.

Anemia: It is either of normal red cell or abnormal red cell in myeloma which taking the normal bone marrow away.

Common symptoms: a feel of weakness, confusion, fatigue and it last long time or happens frequently. Some patients have sudden loss of weight for no reason. And a spontaneous bleeding or easy bruising also may occur to some patients.

These symptoms may be not easy to notice early in the disease; due to they are not of very spectacular with many different situations and organs involved. But it is strongly recommended to visit a doctor to take related examinations if any of these symptoms happened or you have a family history of this disease. Because today medicals still have not find the reason to cause multiple myeloma, there is no certain way to prevent or cure it. Thus the sooner diagnosed and treat the better it will be.
