The Sun, Salsa and Exercise-The Key To Alzheimer's Disease

by Samuel Ameyaw Consultant

The Sun Provides Vitamin D, Salsa Provides Anti-inflammatory Alkaloids capable of crossing the blood brain barrier; from Green Peppers, Green Tomatoes and green leaves from the Solanaceae family. Red Peppers also provides us with  L-Cysteine for the synthesis of Glutathione, an important antioxidant in the brain.

Eating vegetables that naturally contain Anti-inflammatory Alkaloids  such as peppers and tomatoes of the solanaceous family, may reduce your risk of Alzheimer's disease.

When we exercise the brain produces a protective protein in the hippocampus, the seat of memory that improves synaptic transmission and dendrite formation.

The production of this protective protein is mediated by Vitamin D, the Sunshine Vitamin, deficiency of which according to recent studies is associated with an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease. The human brain, specifically the hippo-campus is now known to contain the highest concentration of vitamin D receptors.

Calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3), the active metabolite of vitamin D3, after being synthesized from calcifediol in the kidney, increases glutathione levels in the brain, and appears to be a catalyst for glutathione production throughout the body, particularly in the brain, where glutathione acts as a potent antioxidant in protecting the memory centers from neurodegenerative diseases.

Calcitriol has been found to increase glutathione (GSH) levels in rat astrocyte primary cultures.

Neurofibrillary tangles are ultimately responsible for the clinical signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

Amyloid Plaques are found not only in the brain of patients dying with Alzheimer's disease but also in the brain of most elderly folks who never suffered clinically from Alzheimer's disease.

Beta Amyloid Plaques are therefore necessary but not sufficient in causing the clinical signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease.

Oxidative Stress is a prime contributor to Cognitive Decline and Alzheimer's Disease in Older People, in addition to the Chronic Inflammatory Response Trigered by the Beta Amyloid Plaques so Deposited in the Human Brain.

Normally, the brain is protected from oxidative stress by GLUTATHIONE, a tri-peptide synthesized from three amino acids. L-Glycine, L-Cysteine and L-Glutamate; of which only L-Cysteine is essential.(Semi-essential)

The synthesis of GLUTATHIONE however, is CATALYZED by VITAMIN D, The Sunshine Vitamin, in the human body.

Sunshine and Milk provides us with VITAMIN D. Milk and Red Pepper provides us with L-Cysteine. Peppers also provides us with natural anti-inflammatory alkaloids capable of crossing the blood brain barrier.

And so, Adequate SUNSHINE EXPOSURE, Drinking a lot of good quality Milk or taking VITAMIN D supplement will offer protection and also improve COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT IN EARLY, MILD or MODERATE ALZHEIMER's DISEASE

No wonder the AGE ADJUSTED INCIDENCE and PREVALENCE of ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE according to the World Health Organization, is VERY LOW in THE TROPICAL COUNTRIES in SUBSAHARAN AFRICA, AMAZON and SOUTH AMERICAN COUNTRIES around the EQUATOR, compared to TEMPERATE COUNTRIES where snow fall can limit outside activities and sun exposure to six months or less in a year.

The inflammatory response triggered by the beta amyloid plaques underscores the importance of NATURAL ANTIINFLAMMATORY ANTIOXIDANTS such as ASTAXANTHIN, CURCUMIN and ANATABINE(from Solanaceae) which can cross the blood brain barrier into the brain. And the evidence is there in the "SALSA" EATING COMMUNITIES around the EQUATOR all over the world. Communities that consume a lot of Peppers, tomatoes, garden eggs(egg plant) Wathinia Somnifera all have a very low incidence of ALZHEIMER's DISEASE.

A look at the distribution of Alzheimer's disease throughout different geographic regions in the world shows that

Peasant farmers in rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa that eat these and walk long distances daily to work in their farms under the hot tropical sun, have the lowest incidence and prevalence of Alzheimer's Disease. Likewise the SALSA EATING COMMUNITIES south of the United States of America also living in the tropical sun have a lower incidence too, compared to FINLAND, DENMARK Other parts of EUROPE, CANADA and the USA.Source: Dementia: a public health priority. WHO, 2012.

This is NOT a sheer anecdoctal evidence, as beta amyloidal plaques are now known to trigger an inflammatory response in the brain that lead to the formation of neurofibrillary tangles.

Oxidative Stress is a prime contributor to Cognitive Decline and Alzheimer's Disease in Older People, in addition to the Chronic Inflammatory Response Trigered by the Beta Amyloid Plaques so Deposited in the Human Brain.

PROBLEM:

1st: There is precipitation of Soluble Amyloid Beta 40 as Beta Amyloid Plaques in the presence of Oxidative Stress.

2nd: The Beta Amyloid Plaques so deposited, triggers an inflammatory response; during which phase C-Reactive Protein and other mediators of inflammation rises in their levels.

3rd: The Inflammatory Response Triggered by the Beta Amyloid Plaques, so Deposited in the Brain, ultimately leads to the formation of hyper phosphorylated Tau proteins/neurofibrillary tangles that obstructs nutrient and oxygen supply to the brain and causing progressive ischemic atrophy.

SOLUTION:

The 1st Phase can be disrupted by ANTIOXIDANTS THAT CAN CROSS THE BLOOD BRAIN BARRIER: e.g. Astaxanthin, Glutathione, High Dose Resveratrol or Withania somnifera root extract.

The 2nd Phase can be disrupted by ANTI-INFLAMMATORY COMPOUNDS THAT CAN CROSS THE BLOOD BRAIN BARRIER: e.g. Astaxanthin, Curcumin from Turmeric and Anatabine.

The KEY to Alzheimer's disease therefore is aerobic exercises, Vitamin D and NATURAL ANTIINFLAMMATORY AND/OR ANTIOXIDANTS THAT CAN CROSS THE BLOOD BRAIN BARRIER. eg Astaxanthin, and Anti-inflammatory Alkaloids  from  Tumeric, peppers and tomatoes of the solanaceous family, which can disrupt the inflammatory response to the beta amyloid plaques that lead to the formation of neurofibrillary Tangles and the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease.

All you need is Natural Anti-Inflammatory Antioxidants, capable of crossing the Blood Brain Barrier e.g. Astaxanthin, Cur cumin from Turmeric and Withania Somnifera Root Extract. As well as Vegetables rich in precursors of THE ENDOGENOUS ANTOXIDANT; GLUTATHIONE.-Garlic, Peppers, Walnuts, The Brassica and the Solanaceae.

  • AEROBIC EXERCISES
  • L-Cysteine
  • VITAMIN D
  • SALSA, Garlic, Peppers, Walnuts, The Brassica and the Solanaceae.
  • ASTAXANTHIN

This regimen is based on HARDCORE SOLID SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE.

1. Both the AMYLOID PRECURSOR PROTEIN (APP) and AMYLOID BETA PROTEINS (ABP) are all synthesized by BLOOD PLATELETS. And for years antiplatelet anti-inflammatory medication has proven protective in epidemiological studies of patients with inflammatory disorders such as Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, etc. etc. who are chronically medicated with NSAIDS.

2. The formation of TAU PROTEINS, also known as NEUROFIBRILLARY TANGLES is now known to be the most ESSENTIAL STEP in developing the signs and symptoms of ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE. The beta amyloid plaques are necessary but not sufficient. The formation of this hyper phosphorylated tau proteins follows the triggering of an INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE mediated by MICROGIAL and ASTROCYTES in the Brain, by the BETA AMYLOID PLAQUES deposited by PLATELETS and OXIDATIVE STRESS.

3. Normally the brain is protected from oxidative stress by GLUTATHIONE, a tripeptide synthesized from three amino acids. L-Glycine, Cysteine and L-Glutamate. Both L-Glycine and L-Glutamate are not essential, the body can produce them from pyruvate from Glucose/Fatty acids and Oxaloacetate respectively. Only Cysteine is essential for glutathione synthesis because the body can not produce it in VIVO. You need it in your diet or in a supplement. Even though Cysteine can be biosynthesized from L-Methionine, L-Methionine itself is ESSENTIAL. And so you need L-Cysteine in your diet from MILK, GARLIC, WALNUT or RED PEPPER.

4. The synthesis of GLUTATHIONE is CATALYZED by Vitamin D in the human body. Vitamin D also catalyzes the synthesis of a number of other important chemicals such as GLUTATHIONE, DOPA, dopamine, etc. etc. in the brain.

5. Sunshine and Milk provides us with VITAMIN D. Milk, Garlic, Walnuts and Red Pepper provides us with L-Cysteine. Pepper also provides us with natural anti-inflammatory alkaloids capable of crossing the blood brain barrier.

6. And so Adequate SUNSHINE EXPOSURE, Drinking a lot of good quality Milk or taking VITAMIN D supplement will offer protection and also improve COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT IN EARLY, MILD or MODERATE ALZHEIMER's DISEASE.

8. The inflammatory response triggered by the beta amyloid plaques underscores the importance of NATURAL ANTIINFLAMMATORY ANTIOXIDANTS such as ASTAXANTHIN and ANATABINE(from Solanaceae) which can cross the blood brain barrier into the brain. And the evidence is there in the SALSA EATING COMMUNITIES around the EQUATOR all over the world. God Bless You
