The Rising Dilemma of Car Parking and Global Warming
by Peter Jason Content EnthusiastA parking place is just a spot to
park your vehicle when not in use. Yet, multiply the space by the billions of
car owners in the United States, and you will figure out how much space we
actually need to accommodate all those cars. This is a concern for people who
reside in regions where they have no choice but to opt for cars. And, when the
season of holidays and white Christmas comes, the parking lots all across
America’s famous spots, like malls, start brimming with cars, despite being
vacant for the rest of the year, raising concerns about inefficient energy
uses.
Cars need parking space all the
time, if not all the time, for some time, for sure. A single vehicle
necessitates 1.3 parking spaces, with the excess spaces accounting for the
inefficiencies in the distribution and in the sharing of the parking space.
Nevertheless, the outcome is that there is a need for an uncountable amount of
parking space. However, who would’ve thought that these inefficiencies and lack
of ample parking space, can further aggravate global warming? Yet, only if you
observe a car in the parking lot, you can truly grasp how they can influence
climate change and the environment.
Cars driving into, out of, and
circling around in search of the perfect parking spot in vast parking
facilities, lead to the generation of greenhouse gases, and literally loads of
it. A kilometer driven inside the vicinity of the parking facility is all the more
inefficient and generates double the greenhouse and toxic gases as compared to
driving a kilometer at a regular roadway velocity. Imagine how many of the cars
would drive a kilometer each day inside a parking facility? Billions, roughly
generating tones of greenhouse gases, sabotaging the future of the generations to
come.
Additionally, even if the cars do
not emit hazardous gases, majority of the parking facilities necessitate a huge
amount of electric supply. The electric power generation, all by itself, is
questionable when it comes to the pressing issue of global warming. In fact,
even the basic outdoor parking facilities require a minimum of outdoor
lighting. In contrast, the conventional parking garages have even broader
electricity-sucking facilities like elevators, exhaust fans for ventilation,
and more lightings. Therefore, simply establishing more parking spaces for a
billion cars will all by itself escalate global warming and increased carbon
footprints.
If the issue is not resolved, we
will reach a point where global warming would end up becoming irreversible. But
is there is a solution?
ValetPlz is The
Last Resort.
Founded in 2019 by Prabhat Sharma,
ValetPlz is an incredible peer-to-peer parking space sharing marketplace, where
people from all across the United States can book a parking space from a
vivacious community of local hosts, right where they are, using the app. The
app connects the ‘guest,’ who needs the parking space with the ‘host’ who is
happy to help by lending their spare parking space. In return, the host earns a
few extra bucks by renting out their parking space. This mobile app is not only
the “Airbnb of Parking Spaces” but is also unique by offering drop off and pick
up from your points of interest, just like a personal Chauffeur.
