The pandemic Corona and the diagnosis

by Med Test Med Test

The dreadful and dangerous Coronavirus has slowly started engulfing the people as a pandemic in various countries. Day-by-day the death toll keeps on increasing. Unfortunately, still, no medicines or vaccines are found. In March, the National Health Service planned to run 10,000 tests for Coronavirus every day. Shortly afterwards, the United Kingdom Government announced to carry out 100,000 Coronavirus tests by the end of April’20.

The nation plans on two aims, one is to reduce the destruction caused by the Coronavirus and to support professionals and people to get back their daily lives.

Since every day the condition of the nation has been changing, it is seriously kept under a constant review.

Why is COVID-19 testing important?

Not only the testing helps in diagnosing every individual but also used to identify with how far the virus has spread among the population. Secondly, the families will be tested every month for a year for antibodies and active Coronavirus. The former test indicates any past infection.

The test predominantly helps NHS workers to know whether they are safe to attend their work. It enables the health service plan for the extra demand, informs the government decisions about social distancing and lockdowns.

The types of COVID-19 testing

Currently, 25 million people in the UK qualify for COVID-19 testing. The swab or antigen test will detect if anybody is presently affected by Coronavirus. Another test called an “Antibody” test confirms whether a person already had it.

The Coronavirus testing is done in the NHS Hospitals, local COVID-19 Testing Centre in Northern Ireland and Wales, Scotland, Satellite Centres, portable testing units or using home test kits.

Antibody Test Kit: Tests people to see if they already had the virus as the human body will develop antibodies from Coronavirus that stays in the body for some weeks to months even after successful treatment. But, yet the test cannot confirm whether you possess the virus right now. A new antibody test is said to be 99% accurate that has been approved and developed across Europe. However, this Antibody test is not yet approved by the MHRA in the UK. Medical professionals, pharmaceuticals expect the test will be done across Europe by the end of May.

The COVID-19 Antibody test requires a finger-prick blood sample to be collected and sent back to an accredited UK laboratory for testing and the home testing pack contains

  •  A pathology form
  • ·A finger prick blood collection device
  • ·A postage-paid envelope to return your sample

The Antigen (or) Swab test: It is also done at home with kits. It detects the presence of the Coronavirus on the swabs taken from the nose and throat of the subject. The same is sent to an accredited UK laboratory for testing and the home testing pack contains:

  • · A pathology form
  • · A sterile PCR swab
  • · A postage-paid envelope to return your sample

The test confirms active infections. The test holds an important role in controlling the viral spread in the community.

Yes, if you experience at least two symptoms, particularly dry & persistent cough or high temperature, then you will likely qualify to be tested at your nearest hospital.
