The most common table linens used at weddings

by John Smith Owner
Picking the table cloth is one of the biggest decisions that you face when it comes to wedding decoration. It acts as the foundation for the rest of your table decorations, so it is important to choose the right type carefully. There are a few different fabrics to consider, each with their distinct advantages.

Getting the tables looking beautiful at your wedding reception is one of the major tasks that you face. There is an awful lot to consider, but it all starts with the table cloth. The linen acts as the foundation for the table decoration, and therefore it is vital that you take the time to pick out the perfect type.

The fabric of your table linens will be the first choice to make. Here is a quick look at the most commonly used fabrics at weddings:

Polyester

Polyester is common for large events with lots of people because it is affordable and resistant to stains and wrinkles. Although cheap, polyester can look fantastic at a wedding as it can conform to the shape of the table. It is also available in endless colour variations and patterns.

Satin

Satin table clothes are a superb way to create an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere inside the reception room. The glossy fabric is very appealing and can also reflect the indoor lighting to create an intimate and magical setting. If you opt for satin, a single bold colour like purple or red can shimmer and impress your guests.

Burlap

Burlap table linen is an excellent way to add rustic charm to the room and is ideal for more traditional themed weddings. The coarse and eco-friendly material can add texture which is just as important as colour when it comes to decoration.

Cotton

People do use simple white cotton for weddings, but many find that it is not the best choice for large events where spills are more likely to occur. This is because it is very absorbent and prone to wrinkling. It is a soft, natural and appealing material, however, so it is worth considering for smaller weddings.

Flocking Damask

Damask is a rich and heavy silk or linen that has an eye-catching pattern woven into it. This can look amazing at a wedding, but keep in mind that it is a bold pattern and you will need to consider your theme and colour palette before settling on this type.

Organza

It’s a plain weave fabric with a semi-transparent appearance which looks terrific when used as a table runner or overlay. They look particularly good over a solid coloured satin or polyester table cloth and are an excellent way to inject a bit of colour. Another advantage that organza brings is the fact that it can be machine washed.

These are the main materials that people select for weddings. It is important to decide on a table linen before anything else as this is the foundation of the table decoration and everything else must compliment the table cloth and colour scheme.
