The highly common STDs that people suffer from

by Journo Henry Outreach specialist

The most common STDs are the following:

·         Chlamydia – This is an STD that is caused by C. trachomatis, and this bacterium infects only humans. Chlamydia is considered the highly common infectious reason for eye and genital diseases globally and it is also the highly common bacterial STD. A woman suffering from chlamydia doesn’t show symptoms and any symptom is considered non-specific and it includes changes in vaginal discharge, bladder infection, and slight pain in lower abdominal. When a person doesn’t receive treatment for this disease, then it leads to symptoms like pelvic pain, bleeding between periods, and highly painful sexual intercourse.

·         Chancroid – It is also known as ulcus molle and soft chancre. This infection results in highly painful sores and it gets spread through sexual intercourse. Commonly, this infection is found in the developing nations, particularly amongst lower socioeconomic groups and commercial sex workers. It is because of the shortage of entrée to healthcare services, a shortage of sufficient health education on sex, and the stigma which is linked to seeking assistance besides various other factors.

·         Pubic lice or crabs – The manifestations of pubic lice are commonly spread at the time of sexual contact and pets don’t play any part for the spread of human lice. The lice which remain linked to pubic hair are at times found in mustache, beard, armpits, eyebrows, and eyelashes, and they survive on human blood. As the lice look like crabs, so the term “crabs” are used for them.

·         Genital herpes – This disease is caused by the HSV (herpes simplex virus). This virus does affect the cervix, skin, genitals besides other parts of the human body. There are a couple of types:

o   HSV-1 or herpes type 1

o   HSV-2 or herpes type 2

Herpes is considered a chronic condition and a remarkable number of people suffering from herpes do not show any symptom and remain unaware of the status of their herpes. The significant thing is this STD gets transmitted easily from one person to another through direct contact and commonly, the transmission of HSV type 2 happens through oral, anal, or vaginal sex. Again, Type 1 is commonly transmitted from utensils, shared straws, and surfaces. The symptoms of genital herpes include pain at the time of urinating, vaginal discharge, not feeling well, fever, and cold sores all around the mouth.

·         Hepatitis B – The HBV or hepatitis B virus remains liable for causing this disease. This gets transmitted when people get in touch with infected blood, semen, and various other bodily fluids. Again, HBV also gets transmitted in ways like:

o   Drinking diseased breast milk

o   Unprotected sexual intercourse.

o   Utilizing an unsterilized syringe.

o   Get bitten by a person who is already suffering from hepatitis B.

o   Being pricked by a sharp tool accidentally.

Here, in this STD, the liver swells and a person can go through severe liver damage. It can finally result in cancer and this disease at times turns chronic. The blood donation centers do check for making sure that a donor isn’t suffering from hepatitis B. Hence, going through regular checkups is always important from an STD clinic in Chennai. These clinics don’t confine themselves to testing alone as they also propose counseling and contraceptive services on many sexual health matters.
