The Gift I Plan To Give My Near and Dear Ones This Diwali

by Jyoti S. interior designer

As Diwali approaches everyone starts making plans for parties and celebrations because Diwali is the time to pray together, eat together and in short, celebrate together. With invites given out well in advance, relatives and friends start arriving from different places, so as to start the festivities. Diwali is, thus, essentially a time to socialize with people we don’t meet on a daily basis. In fact, it gives us an opportunity to maintain and strengthen out ties with our near and dear ones. Diwali also is an occasion to shower our love and affection on our loved ones and the best way to do this is through Diwali gifts.

I believe in the same practice as well. Hence, every year I give gifts to all my relatives and friends. However, I follow a particular tactic. Instead of purchasing different products for each and every family, I select one common gift for all of them. This not only makes gift shopping much easier, it saves a lot of time and energy too. All I have to do is select different styles, designs or types of my common gift and my Diwali gifts are ready. In the last few years I have often gifted things like food hampers, dinner sets, crystal ware and home appliances etc. Truly speaking I am thoroughly bored of doing this year after year. So this year I have decided to gift something totally different and unique.

Couple of months back I happened to come across an article in the newspaper which instantly caught my attention. It was about the goodness of aromatherapy – an ancient art of healing through the goodness and power of aromatic plant extracts, more commonly known as ‘essential oils’. It described in detail how aromatherapy can cure both psychological and physical ailments. It also laid a lot of stress on the importance of being not only physically but emotionally fit as well as our emotions control the proper functioning of our body and mind. This thoroughly intrigued me and made me research aromatherapy in detail.

What I discovered completely shocked me. All this while I had only thought of aromatherapy as nothing but another beauty treatment, but I was so very wrong. I was fascinated to know that aromatherapy is a form of complementary therapy designed to treat the whole body by assisting the body's natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself. In other words, aromatherapy can naturally cure a number of ailments like depression, anxiety, stress, all kinds of aches and pains, digestive disorders, skin problems, respiratory problems and many others and all through the power of fragrant essential oils. I was stunned to find out that fragrances could actually affect not only our mood but our health too. Hence, I was eager to know how I could benefit from aromatherapy as well.

After doing some more research I found that there are three different ways in which aromatherapy can be administered and they are through the diffusion of essential oil into the air, through direct inhalation and through topical application i.e. massages. As I am a working professional, with a family to take care too, I can hardly take out time for massages, as for direct inhalation, it is best administered by an aromatherapy expert. What suited me was the first method – diffusion of essential oil into the air. This is the easiest and probably the most famous kind of aromatherapy.

There are various products which can help in the diffusion of essential oil into the air, some of the most common being oil burner or aroma lamp, reed diffuser and scented candles. All three of these are very simple to use and very effective too. I have been using them regularly since the last couple of months and have found a world of difference in my tension and stress levels. Due to a lot of work pressure, I used to feel very stressed out all the time, even after coming home. But ever since I have started using these wonderful aroma products, I seem to feel much more relaxed and eased out.

I have had such a great experience using these natural indoor fragrance products that I wanted to share them with my family and friends as well and hence I zeroed them down as my Diwali gifts ideas for this year. The beauty of these products is not only limited to their various benefits, they are extremely beautiful to look at as well and are, therefore, a marvelous item of interior decoration too. With such products becoming more and more common, there is no dearth of them in the market. In fact, keeping in mind the festive season, a number of brands have even launched aroma packs/hampers, consisting of a number of aroma products. These aroma packs are exactly what I have decided to gift my loved ones this Diwali.

You also try these wonderfully beneficial aroma products and include them in your gift list as well. Your near and dear ones will be mightily pleased!
