The FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago home, says Trumps

by Sara Floyd Hello

Trump said on Monday evening that the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago, former President Donald Trump’s resort home in Palm Beach, Florida.

In his lengthy statement Trump said that by a large group of FBI agents his residence was “currently under siege, raided, and occupied.”

He said that the raid was “unannounced,” by adding “They even broke into my safe!”

After months of questions about whether Attorney General Merrick Garland was planning to pursue investigations into the former president, the search represents a serious escalation of federal law enforcement focus on Trump.

There is probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed and due to this there may be evidence related to that crime in the location they are targeting. The federal investigators must show a judge to obtain a search warrant. To comment both the FBI and the Department of Justice declined.

When 15 boxes of White House records which included some documents marked as classified ended up at Mar-a-Lago the search was related to a Justice Department probe into whether laws were broken instead of the National Archives, reported by the NBC News and other outlets.

Former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti said Monday evening on CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith that “You’re in big trouble if your home is searched by the FBI”.

Related to Trump, his business and his family there are multiple active probes at the state and federal level. To Jan. 6, 2021 the Justice Department is reportedly investigating events leading, riot, when a mob of Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol and delayed confirmation of President Joe Biden’s Electoral College win by Congress.

NBC reported Trump, who summers at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, at the time of the raid was not at Mar-a-Lago.

Later Monday evening according to NBC, without responding to questions the former president departed Trump Tower in New York City.

Lara Trump, ex-president’s daughter-in-law said that “He’s as shocked as anybody,”, who told Fox News that earlier in the evening she had spoken with Trump. With the FBI” with regard to the “documents that have been in question she added that “everybody’s been cooperating.”

In 2024 Lara Trump claimed that they are terrified he’s going to announce any day that he’s running for president, and on Donald Trump this is a very convenient way to just throw a little more mud, as though they haven’t already done enough.

After Politico reported the raid came hours later, attorney John Rowley, a former federal prosecutor, is now representing Trump in talks with the DOJ about executive privilege issues related to the department’s investigation of the Capitol riot on Jan. 6.

Earlier Monday president resurfaced interest in Trump’s handling of official documents, when Axios published photos that it said corroborated prior reporting that Trump was believed to have flushed papers down the White House toilet.

Trump’s attorney, Christina Bobb, said that the FBI seized documents. “With FBI and DOJ officials President Trump and his legal team have been cooperative for every step of the way. Bobb said that the FBI did conduct an unannounced raid and seized paper”.

Trump’s former press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, reported to CNN  that “The former president of the United States did not handle classified documents properly”. “Throw some away, rip some up and put some in his pocket. I watched him go through documents.”

Trump stopped by and greeted the investigators near a dining room at the beginning of the meeting. Without answering any questions, after he left, the investigators asked the attorneys if they could see where Trump was storing the documents.

To the basement room the attorneys took the investigators where the boxes of materials were being stored, according to the source and before eventually leaving the investigators looked around the room.

A second source said that the attorneys spoke with investigators and came to Trump to say hi and want to make small talk. On the other hand, the source also said some of the documents shown to investigators had top secret markings.

Trump’s attorneys received a letter from investigators five days later, on June 8, asking them to further secure the room where the documents were stored. To the room aides subsequently added a padlock.

In April and May according to a source familiar with the matter, aides to Trump at Mar-a-Lago were interviewed by the FBI as part of the probe into the handling of presidential records.

“It is a federal crime in order to remove classified documents wrongly. Elie Honig, a former federal and state prosecutor and a CNN senior legal analyst said that if you are filling out that affidavit then you have to list the crime, thus you can list that as the crime”.

Honig told CNN’s Erin Burnett that the timing of the search on “OutFront” held with the longstanding department rule not to execute politically sensitive moves within 90 days of an election.

“Exactly the midterms today are just about 90 days out, I think maybe 91 or 92 days out, ” he said. They want to stay clear of that if they’re interpreting that as a 90 day rule because of that policy, there may be a reason why they did it today “.
