The following is on the tomb of a bishop (1100 AD) in the crypts of Westminster Abbey:
When I was young, free and endowed with an unbridled imagination, I dreamed of changing the world.
Becoming wiser with the years, I understood that the world would not change. So, I reduced my goals somewhat and decided to change only my country, but he too seemed
unchangeable.
Approaching old age, supreme and desperate attempt, I decided to change only my family, the ones I was most close, alas! They did not want to hear anything.
And now, lying on my death bed, I suddenly understand: If only I had changed myself, then to my example my family would have changed too.
From their inspiration and encouragement, I would have pulled strength to improve my country and, who knows, I may have even changed the world.

Moral of the story :
If you can not change yourself, if you are looking for yourself improve yourself, you can not change others.
Only by your exemplary behavior will you inspire others to become better.
But sometimes, habits (especially bad ones) have hard skin and it is very difficult to change even with the best intention of the world.
