Teachers Can Use These Dollar Store Tips

by Dollar King Blogger

A new academic year is about to start. The list for school essentials is usually long, necessitating buying tons of supplies, setting up the room, planning the lessons, and much more.

It costs money. However, most can save money and time by visiting a dollar discount store and buying a few essential products. They can then use the items creatively. Here are some of the most creative methods to start the year without a hefty expenditure.

Pockets for Pencils

Children lose their pencils frequently, and they can never find them. Solve these problems. Chop large straws into half and place one piece in a corner on top of the desk using duct tape. The students can put their pencils inside the straws when not using them.

Noodle Word Play

Get a pool noodle and a set of alphabets. Cut the noodle into pieces and attach the alphabet to each piece. Use a dowel to stack the cut noodles. They should look like rotating rods and serve as a delightful game for children. They can enjoy the uniqueness while learning spellings and rhymes.

Numbers to Word

Purchase a jigsaw puzzle from a dollar discount store, preferably a 100-piece set, and number them from 1 to 100. Do this with a sharpie on the side of the picture. Alternatively, write vocabulary words on every piece and ask the children to place them in alphabetical order.

Flower Petal

Teach the kids words and stories using flower-like pinwheels. Make retelling pinwheels by writing story elements on every petal. It will enable students to rehearse oral book retelling by turning or holding the petal prompts.

Word Swatter

Perhaps nobody thought they could use a flyswatter to do more than swat flies; now, the children can swat words. There are two ways to do this. Buy a swatter and cut a rectangle from its top, creating a word-framing pointer. Or, take off the handle and create a rectangle in the center to prepare a word finder.

Practice Place-Value

Purchase a set of weekly pillboxes from the dollar store. Use duct tape or spray paint to conceal the days of the week. Follow it up by labeling the interior of every lid with a place value. Place one die within each compartment and close the lids. Shake the box upside down and ready the kids for place-value practice.

Bejeweled Endings

Teach punctuation to the students with clear gems. Grab a sharpie and draw punctuation marks on each piece. Give the children sentences without punctuation marks and ask them to use the right mark.

These are some of the innovative ideas teachers can use to educate their students in a fun manner. Visit a dollar discount store for the required materials for an affordable price and prepare for the new year.
