Straight Hair Tips to Keep Your Hair Looking Sleek and Shiny

by Mansi Khurana Fitness Expert
Long trips to the salon can be quite expensive when it comes to hair drying and straightening. If you have been feeling envious of all those straight haired women who always seem to look perfect, don’t worry – you too can achieve that sleek haired perfection with these straight hair tips.

10 tips to follow for straighter, sleeker hair right at home

1. Start by deep conditioning your hair and make it a point to do it once a fortnight. While the easiest way is to walk into a salon and let yourself be pampered, you can also use ingredients from your pantry to condition your hair. Once you have conditioned your hair, use a wide tooth comb to keep it from getting tangled. Your hair is now ready to be styled any way you want.
2. Get the right tools for the job. If you are using a hair dryer, get one that has negative ion power to control your hair cuticles. For straightening, use a good quality flat iron. Based on the type of hair, choose the correct flat iron.
3. Before you apply the flat iron, prepare your hair. Spray cold milk on your hair until it is wet with it. Brush it with a wide tooth comb. After ten minutes, wash and condition your hair as usual. Use a towel to dry your hair and allow it to air dry. The next day use the flat iron to straighten them.
4. While applying the iron make sure to section off your hair for the best outcome. Divide it into two in front, two in the middle and two at the back. Before you straighten, comb out your hair and get rid of any tangles.
5. Be careful with the heat. While a high heat setting means straighter hair, too much heat can cause hair damage, particularly if the hair is thin and brittle. If your hair is thin, reduce the heat. You may want to use a spray to guard your hair from the heat. While straightening, spread the heat steadily and evenly so that there is no frizz. Begin at the root of the hair and work down to the tip.
6. Experts recommend shine spray and solid wax applied to your hair ends to maintain the look you step out with. This will prevent it from looking frizzy and dull.
7. Blessed with long hair? It may not be feasible to wash and blow-dry it each time you decide to straighten it. Use a dry shampoo in colder weather on your hair roots and follow it up with the flat iron to straighten your hair. Lock in the look with a shine spray.
8. Since straight hair can get tangled more easily than wavy or curly hair, take care to style it with mousse. Avoid applying the mousse to the hair root as this will make it greasy.
9. To make your straight hair look sleek and gorgeous, wash it in the evening and let it air dry overnight. You could braid it loosely or use rollers.
10. If your hair looks dull, use vinegar in your rinse to get rid of any shampoo or other hair care build up. Here is how you do it. Take a tablespoon of vinegar and mix with a cup of water. Use more if your hair is long. Wet your hair and pour the vinegar rinse on your hair, working it in with your fingers. After a few minutes, rinse it off.

Avoid Products with Alcohol

An important straight hair tip is to avoid hair care products that list alcohol in the ingredients as it can strip the natural oils in your hair and make it look limp and dull. If your hair care regimen includes gels, sprays and mousses, switch to those that have zero alcohol.

Hair Coloring

To get some texture into your hair, consider using hair color. High lights and lowlights can make your hair look thick and full of life, giving it depth. Preferably get a stylist to do it so that it looks natural.

Straight haired women take great care of their hair with good quality products and a healthy diet rich in proteins.
