It's that time of year again: the spring season means spring cleaning. While you may be looking to the warmth of the season and spending more time outdoors, you and your family are likely not looking forward to organizing the entire house. To make the task easier and a little more enjoyable, here are some practical tips and tricks you and your loved ones can use to make spring cleaning a little easier.

Change Your Lighting

At some point in the spring cleaning process, you're likely going to have to pull out your ladder and replace some of the lightbulbs in your home, especially if your bulbs burnt out during the winter. Instead of replacing the burnt-out bulbs with incandescent bulbs, think about the type of mood you want to create in the room.

Blue light bulbs are better for daytime use, especially if you're completing important tasks and/or working from home. Blue light bulbs also help make you feel a sense of calm while you work. Bulbs with a warm tinge of orange or red make a room feel more welcoming and inviting and provide dimmer light, so they may work well for the bedroom or den. Once you've found the right light bulbs for your space, it will be easier for you to see how much progress you've made with spring cleaning.

Clean One Room at a Time

One of the best ways to make spring cleaning more manageable is to tackle one room at a time. Think about the rooms that need the most organization and start clearing them out first so that the rest of spring cleaning will be a breeze. For instance, clear your children's rooms of Transformers G1 toys and other games or toys they no longer play with. These can sometimes be sold online. After you've cleaned everything out of your children's bedrooms that they are no longer playing with, wash the linens and curtains and remove any dust from the furniture. You can also add a new bedspread or area rug in the room in a bright or pastel color to reflect the spring season.

Or, you can opt to clean the smallest rooms in your home first. These are usually the bathrooms. Clean all the drawers and cabinets in the bathroom, and sanitize the sinks, toilet, and bathtub. Change the shower curtain and bathroom rugs after cleaning to update the area and make it seasonally appropriate.

Clean Your Home's Exterior

While you definitely want to get rid of clutter in your home during the spring season, it's also important to make sure the outside of your home looks its best as well. Clean the gutters and hire a specialist to see if your shingles need to be repaired or replaced.

Spring is also a great time to plant a garden filled with plants that bloom quickly so you can have several colorful flowers in your yard during the summer. Mowing the grass and trimming the hedges makes a huge difference in how the yard looks and instantly gives your home curb appeal. You can also plant a few new hedges around your home to give your yard more visual appeal. You can also update the look of your home by giving the front door a fresh coat of paint, cleaning the siding, and repaving the driveway.

Conclusion

Remember to clean as you go to make spring cleaning easier. This can help you get more done and motivate you to continue cleaning until the task is complete. If you notice a dish in the sink, clean it instead of waiting for the dishes to pile up. If you see toothpaste on the sink or the bathroom mirror, wipe it up to keep the bathroom tidy so you can concentrate on cleaning other parts of the house. This will keep you from getting overwhelmed during the spring cleaning process. You'll also find that pacing yourself while cleaning can be a huge stress reliever, and you'll feel a huge sense of accomplishment once you've completed everything on your checklist.
